So many times when I tell people I'm an introvert, they just assume I don't like people. Or they assume that I don't have friends, or that I don't go out. But, that's not the case. Here are some things you should know about your introverted friends.
1.We are shy.
Yes, it might take us longer to warm up or open up to people, but once we do, you'll think we're extroverts just like you. You might even call us "extroverted introverts". Introverts don't just jump into big, social situations with ease. They're uncomfortable and a big place of stress, so don't make us go alone. If we ask you to come with us to an event with people you don't know, it's so we can feel comfortable and have someone we know to walk in with or to talk to when we get stressed out. So shout out to all of the people who have gone with me to places because I didn't want to go alone.
2. When we make plans, we will probably try and talk ourselves out of them.
Over, and over, and over again. Just getting ourselves to say yes and not back out is half of the battle. I promise we have fun once we get there. Again, we enjoy going out, and we have fun, it's just more of a process getting there than it is for those who thrive off of social interaction.
And one of the most important things you need to know:
3.We need space.
Extroverts, thrive off of being around people. The more people, the more energetic they become. Introverts, are as you can imagine, the exact opposite. Being around people is exhausting. We need time alone, to collect our thoughts and just "recharge" ourselves. So if we stay home one night and don't hang out with anyone, don't take it personally, we just need the quiet time. Social situations are mentally, physically, and emotionally exhausting for introverts. Once we have that quiet time, we will feel re-charged and ready to go out again.
So, here are just a few things to keep in mind when making plans with your introverted friends :)
