After my first (almost) week of college, I have still yet to figure it out. However, I have learned a lot about college culture in the week I've been here. Here are some of the things I've discovered.
1. People do not dress up for class, no matter how preppy you think your school is

Everyone knows that the University of Virginia is known for being a preppy, southern school. Nope. While this may be the rumor, most people wear t-shirts and running shorts to class.
2. People cannot handle their alcohol, or just have no self-control

Let's just say I saw a lot of ambulances this past weekend.
3. Eating alone is normal

Having to eat at a dining hall when your friends are in class sounds like it sucks, but in reality there are a lot of other people in this same boat.
4. People are still cliquey

There are still a lot of cliques similar to that of high school. Nothing really changes.
5. People really like Chick-fil-a

Actually, this one isn't new, but the Chick-fil-a line was ridiculous.
6. Living with no air conditioning is actually the worst thing

I thought my three fans would suffice, but here I am amazon-priming two more to make my dorm room less unbearable.
7. College professors actually treat you with respect

Maybe I just got lucky with good professors, but mine were much more welcoming, understanding, and respectful than high-school teachers who treated us like children.
8. UVA is the prettiest school
Despite all the other weird aspects of college, the University of Virginia is a beautiful place I am lucky to call home.
