Everyone assumes that dating a vegetarian is difficult, but I'm learning from my relationship that it's not. I can honestly say I was very shocked when my boyfriend told me he was vegetarian because I thought dinner dates would be complicated. Having a vegetarian boyfriend is nothing to stress about. Dinner dates are always successful because there is usually a great chance that the restaurant has vegetarian friendly food.
It is actually humorous sometimes when we go out because some of the waitresses become amused at the fact that my boyfriend is vegetarian. I was unaware that male vegetarians are not very common. Being a vegetarian is not a bad thing like I once thought it was. As my boyfriend says, "being a vegetarian is only a 'mind game.'" I could never personally be a vegetarian because there are too many foods that include meat that I could not give up. Not all vegetarians want everyone around them to be vegetarians either. My boyfriend accepts the foods I eat, just like I accept what foods he eats.
It is very ironic, but we have a lot of foods that we love in common. I've actually met other couples and heard them argue over what they will have for dinner or what foods they will allow in their kitchen because they have completely different tastes in food. Some couples believe that they have to eat the same foods, but honestly, what you eat is your choice. My boyfriend and I eat the same foods, except for when it comes to meat.
I've become protective when it comes to my boyfriend's food being correct at restaurants due to his personal choice to be vegetarian. Being protective has created many laughs for us because of the many freak outs I have when he wants to eat some of my food. I always want to make sure there is no meat on the food. I've tried vegetarian burgers when we go out and I have learned that it is just not for me.
