“So, do you and your twin sister look alike?” is the first question I get asked once somebody finds out I’m a twin. Yet, the person asking is always surprised when I have to break the news that I have a twin brother. Having a twin of the opposite gender is some what similar to having any other sibling. But in way having a twin brother is special in its own way.
1. I had a constant companion.
Growing up with a twin I never got bored because I had someone to play with. If I went somewhere where I didn’t know anyone, I was already guaranteed to have someone to play with or keep me entertained. With me being shy, it was a lot easier for me to deal with first day of school since I always had my brother there to talk to.
2. Someone knows everything about me.
After spending 24/7 hours with anyone, you tend know everything about them. From when I lost my first tooth to when I got my first boyfriend, he was there. Having my brother know everything about me has its perks because we are able to share our “Don’t tell mom or dad” moments. It is a downfall because he knows everything about me. As much as I tried to hide something from my brother, it never works since he knows already knows when I’m lying.
3. There’s always someone to talk to.
Growing up the same age, we went through similar situations. We always had someone there to talk to. It was easy knowing you weren’t the only one going through a certain situation and they knew exactly how you felt. As we got older, we got closer since. We know, no matter the time of day, we can pick up the phone and talk serious matters or need to talk about random topics that pop into our head.
4. I have a best friend for life.
When I was born I didn’t just get a brother, I got a best friend as well. I know I am going to have tons of friends throughout my life, but my brother will always be there. Even though I live far away from my twin, I know that our bond will never break.
Yes, being a twin can be difficult sometimes with; sharing everything and getting the constant questions of who’s older and by how many minutes (I am, by the way). But I wouldn’t change being a twin for the world. All the memories my brother and I have shared together are priceless.
