What It's Like To DJ A Wedding

Pre Wedding: It's the day before the wedding. I've got 4 hours worth of songs on Spotify. Shout out's to Spotify. I'm not a professional but I'm glad I'm just DJing for some of my friends. It takes the pressure off a little bit. I'm very excited.

Hour 1:

Shoot, I’m only 18. I am young as heck. And it’s apparent that everyone else that seems to be doing something important knows that too. I can’t wait until I start looking older, that way at least people can just let me do my thing. Oh, plus I got a request from a lady that didn’t even know the actual song. How hard can this really be? Plus, everyone is frantically walking around getting last minute things done and I just hope I don’t play the wrong song for the First Dances. Here we go.

Hour 2&3 :

Dancing has officially started. I realized that this isn’t any different than what I normally do. Putting together songs that work well together that move well and allow people to transition different emotions. Go from a line dance to a sing along song to a throwback. It all works together. Start off with a bunch of really fun songs, add some more speaking elements, and move on to fun love songs; more one on one stuff; it’s all about everything working together. I’m kind of digging this.

Hour 4:

I’ve started playing some more older, but fun songs that everyone seems to know. Also, there are just times where you just gotta bring the party back up. It’s good to do slow songs but if the bride is trying to dance, let her dance. But know that not every song will work. Some songs that you think would work end up just flopping sometimes. Except Disney songs, they ALWAYS go well. Especially if you give the mic to someone. Instant Joy. After, you’ve just gotta keep the party up, even if there’s not a lot of people around.

Hour 5:

Don’t Stop Believing will bring people out, even if there might not be anyone on the dance floor anymore. Honestly though, at this point, I think everyone is kind of done. Around 10:30 I made an announcement that I’d only play Disney music for the night. I did not lie.

Closing Ideas:

If you ever have the opportunity to DJ a wedding, I would HIGHLY recommend it. Would I do it again? Maybe. It depends. I really enjoy dancing, so I would rather be partying in the wedding.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
