What It Really Feels Like To Be A 20-Something

So you're on the verge of turning 20, and you're still a hot mess –– that's OK! The more you look around, the more you'll realize that many of your fellow double decade-ers feel just as lost as you do. Even though society thinks this is a time when one should have their life figures out, in reality, very few people at this age actually know what they're doing tomorrow –– let alone in life. So, forsake this expectation and take a look at what it really feels like to be a 20-something, and keep in mind that you're not alone.

1. Learning

Society thinks you're supposed to know what you're doing, but at this time in your life so much is going on; with each weekend adventure you're still discovering who you are and what you want out of life. So take it one step at a time, it's OK if you still don't have everything figured out.

2. Soul food

Who says you have to grocery shop? Ain't nobody got time or money for that. If you need to eat, grab some friends and go to your favorite place to get some yummy food.

3. Sleep

You now relish any opportunity you have to sleep in, and you wish you hadn't taken those kindergarten naps for granted. College and post-grad life is a whirlwind, everything moves at a fast pace, so cherish those quiet moments you have.

4. Slipups

Spelling is hard, and reading those Junie B. Jones books definitely didn't help. But, whenever you slip up with spelling or in life, acknowledge your mistake and move on; just keep in mind it's OK to make some mistakes along the way.

5. Pep-talk

Before a big meeting, presentation or interview give yourself a pep-talk, you're awesome and you should be proud of all the work you've done. You're taking a big jump and delving into the real world –– this is a huge step, get excited for what life has to offer.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
