For some reason, people think that girls and video games shouldn't be put together. That's where they're wrong, and that's why people all over the internet dislike girl gamers. This all started years ago when boys would post videos of girls not being able to pick up controllers the right way. It gradually worsened when girls would post pictures of an Xbox and call it a PlayStation for attention. This all got out of hand very quickly and now we're here. The social media now displays females as twigs that can only advertise products. What happened to the good old days of technology when females were inventing things, or maybe the word "gamer girl" wasn't meant to be rude?
When I was younger, the PlayStation first came out. It was the most fun thing I did, and it is now part of who I am today. I can remember the struggles of coming home to finish my homework quickly because I had a whole world to save on my PlayStation. At that moment, as I played, it was like my life changed, and it was a way to take a break from my normal life. Nothing else mattered to me when I was playing a game. I loved that. Taking all the stress out of your day is really a great feeling.
After the PlayStation, the Xbox 360 finally came around, and, of course, I had to get one. The controller was completely different than what I was used to, and it was hard to learn at first. Once I got the hang of it, I was back in a world that I used to know. This feeling of disconnecting to the outside world is what gamers love. It's something that I found at a young age and still continue to love to this day.
Even though I love playing games, that's not what people expect from a "girl gamer" anymore. Sometimes I won't play as a female character. Not because I'm sexist of the character appearance, but because the male characters usually have the better equipment. They also have the better skills and better upgrades than female characters. That's crazy to think that, but game designers just assume that not many females will play the game. I don't say that I blame them though because of all the publicity from these "gamer girls" all over the internet. Even though there are girls out there like me, and I may not be a perfect gamer, I am certainly into gaming for good reasons. So next time you see a "girl gamer" on the internet, you might want to think twice about asking her what her favorite game is. Not all "gamer girls" post half naked pictures of them and their games, and I know that I certainly don't.
