What It Is Really Like To Go To Purdue University

After a year at Purdue, I think I have figured it out.

After one quick year (and yes, it flew by), I think I've finally gotten the swing of things at Purdue. I'll save you the trouble of having to figure these out on your own... here ya go:

1. Don't worry about the freshman 15 you have to walk 2 miles to class!

If you live in McCutcheon, Harrison, Hillenbrand, First Street, Shreve, or Earhart, you will be walking ALOT. Don't be alarmed there is a bus (that smells and takes forever).

2. However if you're not in one of those dorms you probably won't have A/C.

Owen, Wiley, and Tarkington all done have A/C. so you can take your pic on what you prefer when choosing a residence hall.

3. The wifi crashed almost once a month.

Sorry mom and dad, my data bill was way too high this month because I was just trying to turn in my Econ homework.

3. West Lafayette isn't an interesting city.

Most college campuses have a cool bar scene, restaurants, or just things to do. In West Lafayette just plan to study all the time.

4. There is always construction.

Do you like naps? Bring your earplugs because there will more than likely be a bulldozer outside your bedroom window.

5. Purdue is hard.

You will study for hours, pay for a tutor, and still get a C.

6. You have classes of 100+ kids and exams with 400 kids.

8pm in Elliot Hall is where you can find 400 students crying over their calc problem, and regretting not going to community college.

7. Everyone is always sick.

Flu season is August- May here! It would be smart to invest in DayQuil.

8. if you aren't in engineering people don't understand why you go here.

*takes a shot for every time someone asks if you are an engineer*

All in all, these points may seem as is Purdue sucks, but the frozen tuition, reliable degree, and the boilermaker pride makes it all work it.

So Boiler Up, Hammer Down!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
