What is it?
Project Fi is the cell phone service from Google. Who knew that Google had their very own cell phone service? Most of us think our only options are the main stream, money-sucking service providers. You know who I'm talking about. Not anymore.
How does it work?
Google has joined forces with Sprint and T-Mobile, using their 4G-LTE networks to give users the best coverage no matter where they are. Depending on the user's location, a user may get one or the other network, depending on which one has the strongest signal. Not only do these two companies provide coverage, but also each user gains access to cell phone service through public WiFi networks for an even stronger signal. Now you may ask, "Public WiFi networks? Aren't those like, not safe?" Wrong sir, or madam. Google has thought of this as well. When connected to public WiFi networks, all of your information is encrypted so that you know it is safe. Google describes this as follows:"It's like your data has a private tunnel to drive through."
Now you might also ask the question, "May I use my current phone?" The answer is no. Unless your phone happens to be a Google Nexus 6, 5x, or 6P (these are Google's very own phones). And although these are the only phones that run with Project Fi, they are specially designed to work perfectly together with Project Fi. And if you're an iPhone user and are skeptical of Android, I encourage you to check out my article on iOS vs. Android. This may clear up any fears you may have of the iPhone alternative.
How much does it cost?
I know, this is the most important question. Well, here is the answer. Each user pays $20 a month for unlimited talk and text, and $10 additionally for each gigabyte of data. So let's say you want two gigabytes of data per month. You will be charged $40 up front. However, the data you do not use is refunded to your account! Take that convention! On another note, you can always check your account information, bill, customer support and more through the included Project Fi phone application. This application is very easy to use, and I can testify to that.

So What's Stopping You?
All in all, Project Fi is a user friendly cell phone service with fantastic service coverage, easy to understand billing, and fantastic customer support as well. When it comes to cell phone service and most other things these days, these attributes can be hard to find. Ultimately, if you're in the market for a new phone, or a change in your wireless carrier, give Project Fi a ring now that you're not asking the question, WTF? or "What the Fi?"
