What To Do in Indianapolis When You Have A Free Weekend

Please, just do not go to Hard Rock Cafe

What To Do in Indianapolis When You Have A Free Weekend

Do you live in Indiana? Are you bored with your small town? Want to get away for a day or two? Then make your way to the great city of Indianapolis! There is so much to do and so much to see for all ages! Let’s explore some options, shall we?

For starters, I come from a family where we like to plan out our meals; we like to know where we are going to eat and what’s available. Here are some places, for every age that aim to please.

1. The Old Spaghetti Factory

This place is old and rustic looking on the inside, making it the perfect Italian themed place to grab a plate of pasta. Even if you’re not a pasta kind of person, there are salads and soups too. At the end of the meal your waiter gives you a scoop of spumoni ice cream; it’s like Neapolitan but with pistachio, cherry, and chocolate flavors instead. I will say, however, that their bread isn’t as good as Olive Garden’s,but don’t hold that against them.

2. Bru Burger Bar

Now if Italian isn’t your thing, I would try this upscale burger joint; this place loves the art of making a fine hamburger just for you. Their menu includes artisanal hand crafted burgers, but also turkey burgers, fish, and sensational sandwiches. Yelp has it at four out of five stars, and the reviews are raving over this restaurant.

3. Jockamo Upper Crust Pizza

Not feeling the first two options? How about some pizza? This place was featured in VisitIndy.com’s “Indy’s Top 25 Local Restaurants” as one of the best pizza places in the city. They specialize in gourmet pizzas, using local ingredients. The reviews from Yelp give it a 4.5/5 stars.

Now that you know where to eat, what are you going to do next? I’ve come up with a list of places where you can have the most fun in the city:

4. Monument Circle

A classic place where tourists can go to learn a little history, the monument towers over the city like you’ve never seen. You can walk around the whole circle, breathing in the sights and taking all the pictures that you want, or you can go inside the monument! There is an observation deck that lets you go up and get a real view.

5. Rocket Fizz

Of course, not everyone wants to learn when they are trying to have a nice get away. Right in the circle there is a special place where sugar addicts like myself can go and spend hours. It’s called Rocket Fizz and it’s possibly the best candy store ever. They have every soda imaginable, candy from all over the world, and old posters to take home. This place has candy that I haven’t ever heard of before, and soda that I never knew existed. Rocket Fizz is a must see.

6. Carriage Rides

At night around the circle, there are horse drawn carriages that wait for customers to take a ride around the city. They have lights all around them and the drivers provide blankets for those chilly nights. You will feel just like Cinderella, guaranteed.

7. Lucas Oil Stadium

If you’re visiting in the right season, go see the Indianapolis Colts play! The stadium is huge, and even if the Colts lose I bet you will still have a good time.

8. The Indianapolis Zoo

Who doesn’t love a trip to the zoo? This zoo has dolphin shows, monkey exhibits, a giraffe enclosure, and much more. I would highly suggest going around the holidays because the zoo strings Christmas lights literally everywhere. It’s a sight to see!

If none of that interests you then might I suggest going to a special restaurant like Dick’s Last Resort?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Consider these 21 questions to ask in the talking stage when getting to know that new guy or girl you just started talking to:

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
