I'm definitely not new to the piercing or earring game. I love them. However, not too many people talk about the healing process or thinking process when getting piercings.
It IS possible for cartilage piercings to be crooked.
Because so many people have cartilage piercing I thought it was near impossible to get them crooked, but I can't tell you how many crooked cartilage piercings I have seen. The way to know if your piercing is crooked or not is to look at it when an earring is in. If the earring is facing towards you or facing way outwards and not straight, then it's crooked There's no way to fix a crooked piercing other than just letting it heal over and getting it re-pierced.
The healing process is so much easier compared to other piercings.
Unlike most people, I got all my other "unique" piercings way before I got my cartilage piercing. Cartilage piercings only take about 2-4 months to heal while other piercings like the daith take anywhere from 8 months to a year. However, this doesn't mean after 2 months of having your piercing to stop taking care of it or stop being careful with it. You'll still have to clean it to make sure it doesn't get infected.
They are much easier to get infected.
Like I just mentioned, you have to clean piercings to avoid them getting infected. Cartilage piercings are easier to get infected because they are on the outside part of the ear which touches more stuff compared to other piercings. For example, any hair product you use, is more than likely going to touch your cartilage piercing and/or get inside of it. The best way to clean them is flush them out when you are in the shower or put tea tree oil on them.
