Tis the season of holidays and breaks. This season also means we get to go home to spend time with family. For some this is a great experience, for others it maybe isn’t, and if that Is the case, hopefully this will help.
Having lived in another country for three months and living 3 hours from where my family is, this word has a special meaning to me. Home. And I hope it does for you too.
I know a lot can be linked with the mention of home more than you know. Good memories, bad memories, and wanting to get out and go on your own. However, now, we are on our own, and it isn’t as great as it may have seemed at the time. We have learned the harsh reality that food cooked by mom is way better than the cafeteria or anything we try to make.
Someone once told me that home is where you hang your hat. I find this very true more than ever as having two houses plus my apartment, there is only one I consider home. It’s the place where the light is warm, where the yard and house is always covered with beautiful flowers, where the laughter and love covers the walls.
And for those with more than one home due to split families, I also understand the inconvenience and how difficult it may be. Having to split up Thanksgiving dinner and who you spend the Holiday with, even though you may prefer to spend it with one side more than the other, you still must spend it with both.
Home doesn’t have to be a building with walls windows, a kitchen and bedrooms.
It can be anywhere you go to see the ones you love and who love you whether they be blood related or not. The place where your existence isn’t questioned, and where your heart is at peace. The place that when you arrive there and you haven’t been there for a while, your heart skips a beat and you get a smile on your face. The place where people except you for who you are and don’t try to change you. For those who don’t have family, I pray that you will find someone who will bring you in without any question and love you as much as a family should.
Just remember that a house is a building, but home is a place where you don’t have to question who you are. I hope that where ever you go these holidays, that you find your home.
