Having a niece was definitely a surprise, but a surprise that has turned out to be the biggest blessing of my life recently and I would not change a single thing about that. Miss Hallie May was born on Sept. 3, 2016. I remember having to pack my sister’s things the night she was induced, and I was excited. I was anxious to see what Hallie would look like. I was very excited when I found out my sister was having a girl, and even more excited to meet her. A few days after she was born, I finally got to say hello.

Meeting her was kind of hard due to me being sick with a bad cold and sinus infection. I had to wear a mask so that Hallie wouldn’t get sick, which made me sad because I couldn’t give her kisses. Before meeting her, my parents had sent pictures of Hallie, but they didn’t do her any justice. She was the prettiest newborn I had ever seen in my entire life. It’s not very often that you see a newborn that is actually cute! Hallie was five pounds and eight ounces and she was very long, which makes sense because her dad is tall. The doctors say that she will be about my sister’s height when she is fully grown, which is about 5’0”, but I think she will turn out to be taller. After meeting baby Hallie, it was pretty hard to say goodbye, but with her being so little, she needed to eat and rest.

Hallie is now six months old. I might be a little biased, but Hallie is incredibly smart. She learns quickly and has hit many milestones. She has become a pro at rolling over: she rolls all around the room every time she is laid down. She has a pretty, gummy smile and has the cutest laugh. She learned how to use her hands, so now she loves to play with her many different toys and can hold her bottle all by herself. Hallie loves to hold hands and give big hugs. She is still working on sitting up on her own and just now getting to taste of orange vegetables; she really likes sweet potatoes and carrots! She loves Disney music and loves to laugh, sing, dance, and talk. Hallie is a very sweet and easy going baby and everyone loves her to death!

Being an aunt has been so much fun but also comes with some downs to go along with the ups. Getting a six-month-old to nap is not always an easy task. Letting her go without a nap always ends poorly: constant whining and restlessness come along with not napping twice a day. Poor Hallie also has some spitting up troubles, so after a bottle or baby food always comes some nice orange spit up on your clothes, but she is so cute that I always forgive her! I love little miss Hallie to pieces but she sure does know how to stink up a room with her poopy diapers and toots! Her little toots are pretty cute but they sure can be stinky. Hallie has also become a big fan of pulling on my and my sister's nose rings and our hair, and that is never fun, but we love her anyways!

Overall, the adventure of having a six-month-old niece has been so much fun and has brought my sister and me closer than ever, and I love that. Me and my sister FaceTime every day. That gives us a chance to talk and a chance for me to talk a little to Hallie. It has become a daily routine, and even Hallie is used to it! I love my sister and she has grown into the best mother that Hallie could ever ask for, and I’m extremely proud of her. I have the best sister and niece that any girl could have, and I am extremely blessed and thankful!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
