What I Have Learned From My Friends' Long-Distance Relationships

In today’s society, most people think that LDRs, acronym for long-distance relationships, are almost impossible to be in and that they are a waste of time. Two of my close friends prove that this assumption is wrong. I have been lucky to watch them grow in love, no matter the distance. Through their relationship, I have learned so much more about love and relationships and what it should truly be.

You can’t let others get to you.

There are many people in their lives that thought the relationship wouldn’t make it far. The negativity, hate, and rumors could get in the way of most relationships, but this couple proved that they could make it work. They don’t focus on the outside influences, because they realize that the only thing that matters is the happiness they constantly bring to each other.

Trust is a must.

Everyone in relationships hope to be able to trust their significant other, and this is definitely true for long-distance relationships. With time differences, your person may be waking up while you’re sleeping. You can’t always keep them accountable for what they are doing, so you need to be able to trust that they are making the right decisions. My close friends always have each other in mind when making decisions, and I believe that is why they are able to trust each other so much.

Distance is just a number.

Whether you’re 30 miles away or over a thousand miles away from each other, you have to remember that the distance shouldn’t be the most important part of your relationship. This couple, even though they are miles and miles away, grow more in love with each other every day and prove that you don’t need to physically be with each other to love each other.

Be thankful for time spent together.

Through the little time they are able to spend with each other, they cherish it dearly and make every second count. They are able to have a better appreciation of each other, and when they are able to spend time together, they are reminded that the distance is worth it. This reminds me that I need to cherish moments spent with my loved one because, unlike them, my loved one is always very close in distance.

Real love is worth the obstacles.

I can't imagine how it feels to be so far from someone you love. Through their long-distance relationship, they are constantly faced with obstacles, but it’s love that gets them through it all. They know that no matter what life throws at them, they have each other, and that it will all pass with due time. They are able to be emotionally there for each other, no matter the distance.

Enjoy the present and look forward to the future.

While being in a relationship, it is important to make every day count. With this mindset, it is also important to look ahead to what the future holds. In the future for this couple, they have made plans to be closer to each other. They saw the trials of distance and are more than ready to be able to see each other every day. Distance is hard, but if you make plans to change the situation, one day, it’ll be all over and you’ll finally be with the one you love every day.

Relationships are hard no matter what, but it is inspiring to see these two people love each other more and more every day, despite the distance. They have sacrificed a lot to be with each other and I am glad they found the person they want to be with for the rest of their lives. Their story, to me, proves that love does exist in this world, and I aspire to love the way they do.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
