With an entire month off, there is so much time and activities to do before going back to school on Jan. 19. I do not have to worry about turning in assignments (well, besides this article) or scrambling together last minute and getting to class on time. I can sleep in, stay up as late as I want, and hang out with friends who I do not get to see as often. This break has definitely let me catch up on my messed-up sleeping schedule that was left behind after finals week as well as relax and slow down from the busy school year. In all, here is what I have done so far this entire break, and I am sure I cannot be the only one who has done so:
1. Netflix and chilling: Not in the way you are probably thinking, but I did watch a lot of shows on Netflix and chilled at my house lounging in pajamas. I was able to finish watching all of "Reign," as well as "Young and Hungry," so now I going with a show that has more seasons, "How I Met Your Mother." With nine seasons, I definitely have a lot to watch and keep me occupied, but with not having school, I also have a lot of time.
2. Earning some cash: I work as a waitress at a local restaurant, and thankfully my managers allows me to come back and work whenever I am on break for school. This definitely helps pay for any upcoming textbooks, grocery, and other future expenses that I have for the new semester, but it also keeps me busy and out of the house. It is also nice to have some cash in my wallet when I go out with friends to eat dinner or go bowling late at night.
3. Rekindling memories: I am sure everyone has done this, but I got to catch up with my best friend, even though we talked through text like every day, but also met with friends who I do not normally text as often. It is nice to see everyone and hear about their adventures during their semester at college and seeing any new opportunities that sprung on them.
4. Napping: The first week back from school, I took naps ... every day. There was even one night where my brother and I were watching episodes from "The Office" and I fell asleep around 6 p.m., woke up around 7 p.m., and then took another nap from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Let's just say I watch a lot of my new show. But I will say, I never got that luxury in college, so it was nice to finally catch up on sleep.
5. Hiking: With the many hiking opportunities within Virginia, especially Central Virginia, I took advantage with a couple of friends and hiked a trail called Humpback Rock -- a four-mile hike that has a total of 1,240 feet of elevation and captures a view of Virginia's Shenandoah Valley at the very top. Even though I am totally out of shape, the hike was well worth it once we got to see the view at the top.
6. Snapchatting like crazy: Not only am I taking weird pictures and lip-syncing to "Hello" or "Sorry" and sending them to my friends, but also showing people what my hometown looks like, and actually supporting that it is indeed small. With one stoplight, there is not much to do except be proud of the small community. I also have to keep up with my 39 days and counting Snapchat streak with one of my friends.
I am sure that all of this, especially the Netflix part, will continue to happen until I go back. I am definitely enjoying my time off from school by relaxing and working for the month off, but I am excited to see friends at school as well as tackle on the new semester.
