If you are anything like me, you grew up in the early 2000s, "Gilmore Girls" was a big part of your life. I always wanted to be smart like Rory, independent like Lorelai, brave like Emily and funny like Sookie. I wanted to live in a town like Star Hallow and be able to walk down the street and know everyone in town. When I found out they were doing a revival on Netflix, I did a jump for joy. Why not bring back one of the best shows in TV history to see where everyone is now? One of the biggest things I’m looking forward to his seeing how Lorelai and Rory’s relationship has blossomed. Growing up with a single mother, I was always envied their perfect relationship. After hearing the news about the revival, I decided to go back and watch the original seven seasons. Re-watching it made me realize how much the show influenced my relationship with my mother. After rewatching, I found four big ways that Lorelai and Rory’s relationship influenced our relationship.

1. Sometimes you guys will fight, and that's OK.

We all remember when Rory decided she was finally an adult and didn’t listen to her mom. It was one of the biggest fights they ever had, which led to them not talking for months, and Rory moving in with her grandparents. After a few months, they were able to hash out all of their problems; making their relationship stronger. I never anticipated that I would ever be in their shoes but it turns out that no relationship is perfect. Looking back I cannot honestly say what exactly we fought about, and why it was so important at the time. We went a week without talking, and for me and my mom that is quite a long time. We, of course, made up and got past it just like Lorelai and Rory, with our relationship coming out stronger in the end

.

2. Your mom is human too. She has good days and bad days. Support her.

There were many times throughout the series that Lorelai was seen trying to find her own purpose in life. Rory was always there to support her mother’s dreams and wishes. As a teenager, it was harder to realize that my mom also had feelings and my feelings weren’t the only that she cared about. It took me until I was in my sophomore year of high school year that I realized that my mom was a person and not just my mom. I have already forgotten the details of that day but I finally saw that my mom wanted to be seen as a person and not just as a mother. Rory was great at that, and I strive every day to see my mom first as a human and second as my mother. I want her wishes to be my wishes, her dreams to be my dreams and for her to never hide her feelings from me to spare my feelings

3. Your mom is always your biggest supporter and #1 fan.

Lorelai almost always supported Rory’s life decisions (Although dropping out of Yale was sadly not included.), she was always there for the big moments in her life from which school to go to or which boy to choose. Rory didn’t always know that her mom was silently there but she always believed that her mom would always have her back and be a shoulder to cry on. This is something I knew in the back of my mind but didn’t really hit me until I moved 1,400 miles away from my mom. Like all mothers, she was not happy that her baby was leaving, but she supported my decision. She helped me pack, drove me all those miles, and moved me into my new place. All while holding back her tears. I didn’t realize the amount of support I had from her until she went home and I was left truly alone for the first time in my life. I would call crying, usually daily, wanting to come home; she always said she would support whatever decision I made. I can’t thank my mom enough for her silent support, her encouraging words and her never-ending patience of letting me complain over the phone .

4. And lastly, she will always love you, no matter what.

Lorelai and Rory’s relationship was always strong, in every episode, you could see the love between them. Lorelai said on more than one occasion that Rory was the best thing to ever happen in her life, even though she had her very young, she wouldn’t trade their relationship for anything. My mom will always love me. I’ve known that my whole life but it’s still something I struggle with daily. Her opinion matters so much to be and I am always scared that I will make a wrong decision and she’s not going to like it. I’m still learning that no matter what she will always love me. Her love has no boundaries and is never-ending , she will love me until the finals days. Believing that and knowing that are two different things, with her reassurance I will know that her love is always there forever.

Happy Mother’s Day, Mom. Love you to the moon and back.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
