11 Lessons That "Friends" Taught Us

So this week I finished Friends. And now I am broken hearted. I feel like I lost 6 of my best friends, which is insane because it is just a television show, but it got me through one of the most difficult times in my life. When I was at my lowest, I could turn it on and know that I would have a reason to laugh. So, as a tribute to my favorite show, I would like to share all of the life lessons that Friends taught me.

1. Once a friend, always a friend.

Your true friends will always be there. They will know you and all of your weirdness, and they will love you. Friends see all of your imperfections and love you for them, and the extra special thing is, you feel the exact same way about them. These are the people that have a key to your apartment, will be there when your children are born, will answer the phone when you call them at 4 in the morning, and will never fail you.

2.If you work hard and stay persistent, you’ll end up with a career that makes you happy.

Rachel started out as a waitress in Central Perk. However, she made it to Ralph Lauren, and then to Louis Vuitton (at least almost). She is proof that you can do anything if you work hard and don't give up. The road to your dreams isn't easy, but it isn't impossible.

3. It’s good to know what you want, but don’t overstress about the future. You don’t always need a “plan.”

I have always stressed about what tomorrow will hold. However, it is unnecessary. Do your best today, and tomorrow will take care of itself. You are going to be okay. Just don't let your future take away from your present, because the present is really all we have. The future is never guaranteed so don't worry about it too much.

4. Building (and hanging out in) forts isn’t just for kids.

Why do you have to be "too grown up" to do certain things. Nurture your inner child, and let yourself laugh and smile with your friends. It will make you happy!

5. Telling the truth will set you free.

The truth is always the best path. It isn't always easy, but lying will follow you around no matter where you go. Honesty is bravery, and it will pay off. If it doesn't work out because someone doesn't like the truth, then it wasn't meant to be in the first place.

6. Take care of yourself when you get sick instead of denying it.

It is so easy to wait and wait and wait to take care of ourselves. However, we are only making things worse. If you don't feel good, then do something about it before it takes you out of the game.

7. It’s OK to have lazy days with your friends.

Sometimes all you want to do is NOTHING. and That is 100% okay. Your friends are most likely on the same page. So take some rest and relaxation. You work hard all the time, it is okay to take a break every so often.

8. Embrace your natural beauty.

Don't let someone make you feel like you aren't beautiful. Love yourself no matter what. People are quick to point out your flaws, but you are so much more than your imperfections.

9. Sometimes you’ve got to suck it up.

Sometimes you need to remember to put the feelings of others above your own. Your friends need your love and acceptance, and if you truly love them you will do that for them no matter what.

10. It’s Okay To Start Over

Things aren't always going to be perfect, and if you aren't happy then it is okay to make a change. Even if that means turning your life completely upside down. It is always okay to make a change.

11. Your friends are the family you choose for yourself.

Your friends are the greatest blessing in your life. Sometimes you choose them, sometimes they choose you. But no matter what you'll love them forever and they will love you.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
