What I Forgot To Thank My Sisters For

So, thank you.

What I Forgot To Thank My Sisters For

Four years ago I made a life-changing decision. One that if you had asked me about five years ago, I would have never seen myself making. I joined a sorority. I became one of 'those girls' that everyone judges to be all peppy and put together in pink. Here's the reality of it; being in a sorority isn't about all the glitz, glam, or fashion at all. It comes down to one thing; sisterhood. Something that going into college I knew nothing about. Something that I wasn't expecting to get when I did join my sorority.

The bonds that I've made in my four years at school are some of the strongest bonds I've ever known. They've withstood boys, breakdowns, drunken arguments, all-nighters, and every other emotional aspect that college has to offer. While I've never taken for granted the friendships and connections that I've made with my sisters through the years, I've come to realize that I haven't been as appreciative as I could have been. So here's a genuine thank you for a few things.

The Laughs

So, so many laughs. There has rarely been a time where my stomach doesn't hurt from laughing so hard. Thank you for making me genuinely happy.

The Memories

Every significant memory I have from college has my sisters around me. So thank you for being there through all of the good memories, and standing with me through all of the bad.

The Late Nights

Whether we're up studying for a test, procrastinating, or just having a heart to heart. Waking up in the morning isn't quite so bad knowing I'm not alone in having stayed up so late.

The Borrowed Clothes

Because let's be honest, how can you make it through college without borrowing from multiple people's closets to make sure you're looking your best.

The Advice

Whether it's about boys, the future, or just life in general. Thank you for getting me through it and making sure I see both sides to the stories.

The Support

For all the monumental changes that happen in life while in college, thank you for always being there to support me no matter what it may entail.

The Arguments

Yes, I'm even saying thank you for the arguments. It's easy to get your feelings hurt and sit back and cower in a room with 50+ other girls. The arguments teach me to stand up for what I believe in. To not be afraid to hear, or speak, the truth.

The Late Night Talks

Sometimes about life, sometimes about nothing. Sometimes full of laughter, sometimes full of tears, sometimes binge-watching "Grey's Anatomy" or "One Tree Hill." One thing's for certain though — the best heart to hearts come in those wee hours of the morning.

The Late Night Food Runs

Thank you for making it acceptable to go to Taco Bell at 2 a.m. even when I'm not up studying for a test.

The Adventures

Thank you for making every trip, no matter where or how far, an adventure to never be forgotten.

The Shoulders To Cry On

Thank you for holding me when I cry, catching my tears when they fall, and letting me vent all of my emotions out; whether it be three in the afternoon or three in the morning.

The Lifelong Bond

No matter how old I get, I know I've formed bonds that will outlast any number of years that pass by. The memories, the advice, the laughs, the tears, the adventures- all of it will continue to fit into that bond. So thank you for being genuine and trustworthy enough to show me what the bond of sisterhood is. Let's be real here, sisterhood is one bond that you can't undo.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
