What does it mean to be a millennial?
That word nowadays does not signify a time period of when people were born, rather it signifies a way of thinking. This word, this label is often associated to mean progressive yet naive, unique yet loose. Loose in the sense millennials does follow the rules. These so-called rules are the current way of thinking, the status quo, how things are. The thing with millennials are, they challenge these very rules, the very structure of the current world. However, with the challenges come the good, the bad and the ugly.
Honestly, as a nation, we haven't seen such unrest in a younger generation since the 60s, in my opinion. Don't take unrest in such a negative light. Millennials are the movers, the shakers and the future producers. Everything they may say isn't right and isn't wrong. Millennials like smartphones, cat videos, apps and helping people. Yeah, that sounds about right. Millennials are misunderstood. Yeah like they texting, to be on Snapchat, they can be rude, they're stressed, anxious, a little bit crazy, but they are the dreamers. They are really no different than any other generation, it's just everything they do is magnified, like a billion percent.
In the world of social media, cameras and anything else technology oriented, there is no doing anything without scrutiny. Everything is documented, micromanaged and even tweeted. There's a lack of freedom, rather the unknown. You can't go anywhere without telling someone and the world would just end if you didn't follow rules. You can't just pick up and go, you gotta go to college, get a job and be like everyone else. But millennials reject that idea. Not that everyone is getting on a plane to backpack on another continent, but in the sense that "hey I'm going to do what I want to do", and everyone should admire that. Millennials, are just kinda kids, not in the sense they still use a "sippy cup" but in the sense that they haven't given up on their dreams or the world yet. Somewhere along the line of going to school and/or getting a job, people lose that. Well millennials, look around you, smell, look, hear, touch, yell, kick, and scream. Because this is our world to inherit. Beyond that entire word vomit, understand that millennials are different because they're the new generation. Have I been talking about millennials in the third person this whole time? Oh well, I am a so-called millennial.
A kicker and a screamer.
