What Does Black History Month Mean To You?

"I want to thank our people for what they have done in this world."

343

Black History Month starts in February every year. We get to celebrate all of the African Americans who have accomplished many things in the world, including Beyonce, Serena Williams, Maya Angelou, Muhammad Ali, and more. Anyone can celebrate Black History Month, it doesn't matter if you're White, Black, Spanish, etc. You can celebrate it.

I love to celebrate Black History Month, because I want to thank our people for what they have done in this world.

When I look at Black History Month, I look at it as a motivation, because of their achievements can help me become a successful person and change the world.

For example, Civil Rights Leader Martin Luther King inspired us and helped us how to be equal by giving us one of the greatest speeches of all time called “I Have A Dream” and fought for our people. Baseball Hall of Famer and my favorite athlete of all time Jackie Robinson became the first African American to play in the MLB and breaking the color barriers back in 1947. Also, he became the first African American to get inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1962. What Robinson showed us was we can do anything we want in our lives and never give up. African American Muslim Minister Malcolm X was the Nation of Islam's leader and for the African American community. Malcolm X fought for African American rights and supported black pride. He became one of the influential people in the world after his death in 1965. There's a book about him called “The Autobiography of Malcolm X”, which is a must read.

Last year, Actor and former teacher Jesse Williams made a strong speech when he won the Humanitarian Awards. So I want to share this video to you guys:

As an African and African American Studies student, I want to become a teacher, because I want to teach my students about Black History and the problems in America. Today, it's terrible how public schools don't teach their kids about Black History. We need to fix that, so that's why I want to become a teacher.

I love Black History Month and thank our people for accomplishing many goals in the past, so we can celebrate them every day.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
