What they don't tell you about college is how many different tests you have to take every day! Not only do we have to study up for the paper tests and exams, but we also have to face everyday tests. The things that really question what your morals are or who and what you value most in your life.
What they don't tell you about college is that you will go through hundreds of friend groups in just your freshmen year alone! The group you find in the beginning of your freshmen year, will be like strangers to you by the end of it.
What they don't tell you is that time management in college is key! Between all your sports, clubs, jobs, and classes, sometimes it's hard to manage your college life, but trust me, it's possible.
What they don't tell you is that by getting involved on your campus, you will not only be constantly busy every day of the year, but that by the end of your sophomore year, odds are you will know every person on campus, from student, to professor, to cafeteria employee.
What they don't tell you is that all that "valuable information" your high school teachers shoved down your throat, yeah, it's all wrong. From your writing style, to your research methods, wrong, wrong, wrong, it's all wrong. They say that your high school years are the best of them all, the ones you'll remember and cherish the most; also wrong.
What they don't tell you about college is that these years are your prime! They are where you really find yourself, your true forever friends, your morals, and even what you want to do for (and with) the rest of your life! Forget high school, college- those are the years of you. It's all about you, that's what they don't tell you.
They don't tell you that every college in America wants to keep their students by any means possible, so just a little push by you and your family in the right direction will help you with any financial concerns you may have.
What they don't tell you is that your professors and college staff are not out to get you, or fail you, but are there to push you to your best ability and prepare you the best way they can so they can watch you reach for your goals.
What they don't tell you about college is that you are finally treated as an adult, as an equal. You'll become good friends with your professors, and be able to goof around with the cafeteria staff, because on a college campus, we are all equal.
And finally, what they don't tell you about college is that, yes it's hard to get into, and sometimes it's a struggle, but it is also the best decision you will ever make. They don't tell you that you are constantly learning even outside the lecture hall because honestly, who wants to be told that college is constantly a learning experience? I know when I graduated high school, that was the last thing on my mind.
Instead, they will tell you that college has great athletics, awesome parties, and you can get all this for the very low price of about $50,000 a year.
Maybe colleges should start telling you what you really get for $50,000. They would probably keep more students.
