Being a college student during this time of year is super stressful, not to mention what’s going on in the world right now. Thanksgiving will be a good time to reflect on what we should be thankful for this year.
1) Delicious Food
Mashed potatoes, stuffing, green bean casserole, gravy, and cranberry sauce. I don’t really like turkey but I hear that most people enjoy it. Please give me all of this and more! And on top of all of the food being delicious, it is also totally free to eat! Woohoo! Goodbye cafeteria food. We will not miss you.
2) Family and Friends
We may have been excited to leave our families when we first came to college but now we realize how much they know about life and how much we need their help. Plus it’s just nice to hang out with them after going such a long time without being home. Also, seeing your old high school friends and catching up with them is another amazing part of Thanksgiving break.
3) All the desserts
Ok. I know I already talked about the food but I think that the desserts at Thanksgiving deserve their own category. Seriously, three types of pie: pumpkin pie, pecan pie, and apple pie? Yes, please! I don’t know about what everyone else’s family eats for dessert but my aunt makes delicious cinnamon rolls! I hope that everyone’s stomachs are filled with delicious treats this break.
4) Pets
We miss our pets! We can’t wait to catch up with them as soon as we enter the door. Why is there a rule that we can’t have pets in campus housing? Can we change that please? Cause, I mean fish are awesome but you can’t cuddle with a fish.
5) Switching over from normal music to Christmas music
I am sorry for the people that do not like Christmas music but I have to ask you: why do you hate happiness? I am super pumped for the radio to start playing Christmas music! As soon as Thanksgiving is over I will be rocking out to Trans Siberian Orchestra, “Deck the Halls,” “Winter Wonderland,” “Baby It’s Cold Outside,” “All I Want for Christmas is You,” “Feliz Navidad,” “It’s a Marshmallow World,” “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” “O Holy Night,” “Silent Night,” and “Frosty the Snowman.”
6) Old Hangout Places
We miss places that we hang out at while we are home, like favorite restaurants.
7) Naps
Yeah…we definitely need sleep. All of the tests and papers and projects that we had to do before break left us with a lack of sleep. Between that and the food coma that we are going to have on Turkey Day, we are sure to catch up on some much-needed sleep.
8) The semester is almost over!
Speaking of all of those papers and exams we had before break we will have about twice as much when we return to campus. But after that, we are done with school for the semester and have a month to relax and recuperate.
