College is a swirling vortex of new life experiences, new people, new things—new everything. We graduate high school and boom, are thrust into this metropolis known as a "campus" and suddenly are faced with countless radical things. Yet, some things will always remain the same.
1. You Can Find A Niche
(Nerds Unite!)
Whether you consider yourself a "jock," a "weirdo," or even one these proclaimed "hipsters" (that everyone is seemingly into these days), there certainly will be a place for you. Instead of hanging with the same three friends you did in high school because you just didn't fit in—now you can find your place (whatever it may be) among the new 1,000-20,000 students you stumble into. Amen to that.
2. "Cool" Isn't Always Cool
When you get to college, you'll start to realize that things that were "cool" in high school really have no significance anymore. There are so many different types of people at college that "cool" to you is someone else's "freak of nature." #Facts
3. You Get To Try Out Everything
I could imagine that your high school (unless you went to some dope alternative high school) did not have a rock climbing, puppy raising (yes, real life puppies), or a Quidditch club. But these things exist in college. Walking into an activity fair during your freshman year is the most overwhelming thing possible (see confused kitten gif), yet the world really becomes your oyster.
4. You Will Be Exposed to Different People
In college, you will meet people from all walks of life. People of different cultures, economic status, sexual orientation, and personalities than you have ever met before. Embrace them! Interacting with people who are different than you provides growth and an increased outlook on life. #MaxPreaches
5. Schoolwork Actually Gets Kinda Hard...
Expectation:
Reality:
Most kids who come to college killed the game in high school and found the work to be pretty easy. But once you get to college, you quickly realize that you actually need to study (gasps by all) to do well. And what is this? Papers due every week? Exams? Did I sign up for this sh*t?
6. You Start To (hopefully) Mature
One of the worst (or best—depending on how you view the world) things that change in college is that you really mature and come into yourself. The person you are as a senior in high school and who you become during your years at college will definitely be a different person. When you are out doing all these new #SoCollege things, you're really just developing and finding out what you like and don't like. All the while dealing with new responsibilities and turning into an adult (in your future employer's eyes, anyway).
7. You Will Learn That No One Gives A F**k
8. There Will Still Be B*tches
This refers to both the male/female species of this breed. No matter where you go in life, you will find a Regina George or Voldamort lurking in the distance, sippin' on their hatorade, just tryna tear your boss *ss self down. There's always gonna be people out there who are just haterz.
9. There Will Still Be Cliques
Despite all my preaching about finding your niche and happiness for all, there will still be cliques in college. Especially if your school is really big on Greek life. I'm not hating on Greek life or anything (I was once a frat star myself), but it definitely could cause cliques to arise in the college world. The way to combat this would to just continue accepting people for who they are and expanding your horizons (plus, there are still so many people that cliques don't matter anyway). #MaxPreachesAgain
10. There Will Still Be People "Out Of Your League"
We all have one—the girl or guy that you will go googly eyed over when you see them walk by. In high school, there were the studs and the dime piece girls that everyone admired walkin' around. In college, it is no different. There will be those people you see around and are just in awe of their beauty—but never ever dream of actually talking to them. God bless the dimes.
11. You Will Still Be Treated With The "Freshman" Stigma
In high school, you were the new kid on the block, the seniors probably terrified you, and treated you like you were 3 years old. In college, it's the same. No, no one will stuff you in a locker (do lockers even exist in college?) But, you will probably hear "Haaaa, Freshmannn" a significant number of times. You really are just treated like a tiny, immature child that wondered onto campus. You may also be cried at by depressed seniors who hate you because you're three years younger. Enjoy it, freshman.
