I originally watched "Gilmore Girls" disc-by-disc via Netflix (before it was available for streaming) and it was a game changer for me. The fast-paced banter and obsession with coffee intrigued and delighted my 15-year-old self. I found myself talking faster, making obscure pop-culture references, and straight-up quoting entire sections of the show. I'm not lying when I say that I still do all of those things. If you've seen "Gilmore Girls" before, I know you are feeling a bit like I am about the continuation of the series on Netflix.
I am screaming internally because it is official! We will get four new 90 minute episodes of "Gilmore Girls" that each takes place in a new season (fall, spring, summer and winter). We also know that these new additions will be written and directed by Daniel Palladino, who is the husband of the creator Amy Sherman-Palladino. This is an exciting turn of events, but let's talk about what we might get to see in this continuation, shall we?
First of all, let's discuss the most important relationship that means success or failure for the show: Luke and Lorelai. Although I have an unending line of questions about their future, in my head they have a couple of kids and Rory (maybe with her own kids?) comes back to visit every few weeks. The most exciting part of this continuation is that all of our hopes and dreams may come true and we no longer have to fantasize about what their lives are.
Secondly, let's talk about the Yale graduate we all want to see living her dreams. Will Rory be seen settled down with a great guy? Heck! She might even have some kids of her own. I have mixed feelings about her ex-boyfriend, Logan, but maybe he is the right one for her. We will have to wait patiently and see.
No matter which way the writer goes with these characters, there isn't a lot he can do wrong. I'm so excited to see where they are now, and to get to watch my headcanons become a reality (or be crushed entirely, but that's for a different time). What do you think? Where would you like to see the characters now and how would you like things to be different?
