While that soldier in Afghanistan is dodging bullets, you're at work in your office or at school sitting in a seminar. While that soldier is eating food out of a package, you're eating a full home-cooked meal with your family. While you're complaining about how cold or hot it is outside, a solider is enduring any condition possible because its his or her job to. While you're not returning your parents' calls, there is a soldier who doesn't even have the blessing to be in contact with their family every day.
No American wants to be in the Middle East right now with all of the chaos that has sparked, but there are men and women over there so that we are safe. Think about it. What if it was your job to defend our country. I know that sounds light, but put into perspective how everyday there is a soldier who walks outside and could possibly not be able to walk back inside later on.
We never realize how good we have it as a country. With the impending election coming on, it's easy to see all of the bad things that are going on in the world but we don't even realize how good we have it on our own soil. We also take for granted who is protecting our lives everyday. We forget why these men and women are risking their lives, dying overseas to ensure that we can live a happy life.
We are so ignorant as to how much these men and women do because we're not over there; we can't see the conditions that they're in. We don't see the bombs they're avoiding, or the amount of anguish they have when a friend is lost in combat. Movies can only illustrate so much.
My family is majorly made up of U.S. Navy and Marines. I couldn't be more proud or grateful to have a family full of veterans. A family of veterans who taught me to not take for granted what this great country offers, and the amount of opportunities and lifestyle I have because of the sacrifices made by our veterans.
We live in a free country because these men and women risk their lives for ours everyday. Just remember, what you're doing during your day. Realize the things that you have. Look at your surroundings. We have men and women in the media who try to belittle our military. But how can you belittle a group of people who are risking their life so you can live yours safely?
So think about it. Take time out of your "busy day" and think about the life that you're living. The safety that you take for granted everyday is all because of the United States military.
