Greetings! Welcome to Hayleigh’s Corner! My name is Hayleigh Carroll and I am currently a Senior at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC. I joined the Odyssey team because I felt that I had things that I wanted to be able to say and share, but I had absolutely no idea how to get my thoughts out there. Thus, Hayleigh’s Corner is born.

Before I get to explaining what in the world Hayleigh’s Corner is all about, let me introduce myself to those of you who just happened to stumble onto this page accidentally, or out of boredom, and have no idea who I am. Like I said, I am a Senior at Wake who will be finishing her last year here in a year and a half because, well, life happened. I am a double major in Theatre and Sociology with a Concentration in Crime and Criminal Justice, and I just got back from studying abroad for a semester in London with the Theatre Department. I have a passion for theatre and I am hoping to wind up working as an attorney in the entertainment industry once I graduate from law school. I have always been that weird kid who was cutting up her clothes, her hair, other children’s hair, all for the sake of fashion and beauty. Now I am just a Disney-obsessed, quasi-grown up trying to figure out how to take cool things that I see in fashion and beauty and make them my own.

So, without further ado, let me introduce you to Hayleigh’s Corner. Each week I will be posting new content on topics such as beauty, lifestyle, navigating college, fashion, and whatever else intrigues me. If I decide that I want to try some crazy new trend in makeup, I will share that with you guys. If I randomly buy a cheap flannel shirt at Goodwill only to butcher it and sew it back together in a new way, I will definitely be writing about that. If I witness something on Wake Forest campus that really needs to be called out and addressed, I will most definitely be sharing my opinions the following week.

Basically, this is a space to explore myself, question the world around me, and take things that are ‘trendy’ and see if they can work for my taste and style. I encourage you to break the mold. Do something new and different. Try something that makes you happy, even if it doesn’t fit into the standard conventions.

This is where I need your help. I want to create content that you want to read. I have some ideas that I am working on right now, but I want to know what kind of things you would like to see in the future. Want to know if a Pinterest tutorial really works? I will try it. Do you want me to find out which mascara under $5 is the best? Do you want to know advice from WFU faculty and staff on how you can make a good grade in a hard class? Just tell me what kind of things that you would like to see in the comments section below! I am really looking forward to the opportunity to explore who I am through this format, and I encourage all of you to do the same in whatever way works for you. Thank you guys for reading and I will see you next week in Hayleigh's Corner!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
