Syllabus week or nah?

Welcome Back Week

Good day, everybody. Hope your first week back to school was as good as it gets. For most colleges, they've been school for a week already, if not more, but for some high schools, their first days is this upcoming Tuesday. Either way, no matter who you are, or where you go to school, I would love to share some tips on the first week or few weeks back to school. So far, so good right? Well-- not always. Some peoples' first week could be a living hell, others' could be rainbows and roses. Here's how my first week of my sophomore year went--

Well-- all I can say is two words. Syllabus week. Syllabus week was great for me. I do a whole lot of nothing in most classes this week.

On Monday, I started off in my first class bright and early at eight am. I don't mind eight am's so thats not the issue. I walk in come to find out I was the only sophomore in a group of freshman. Now, now, I am not that mean rude upperclassmen, personally I don't give a damn where you a from or what grade your in, but this class really grind my gears. I guess I was being a little too hard the first day, because I mean it was the freshman's first day as well. So I stuck through it and waited to Wednesday when I had the class again. It was pure torture, and let me tell you, it is not all freshmen, it's this one specific one that just irks me. He takes being a class pet to the extreme. Everybody know a class pet and this kid just needs to go somewhere. I'm all cool and chill about answering questions your professor may ask, but when it's time to shut your mouth and listen, you better listen and stop interrupting. It was so distracting I couldn't take it.

On Tuesday, I started off my first class of psychology. Come to find out, it's also an all freshman class-- (boy lucky me.) Except one of my best friends, Emily, who is also a sophomore was in the class with me. We ended up getting there a little early on that day, and people watched as they came piling in the door. Just when the class was about to start, (I mean the professor was about to talk, and show us the syllabus) that same annoyance of a kid from my math class came walking in. Dear God. I turned to my friend Emily and said, "Just wait."

By the end of the class, Emily knew why I said, "Just wait." If he isn't the most irritating kid.

So thank you to this kid, for making my first week a little more annoying.

Not only was this kid an issue, but my Spanish class is absolutely impossible. I am not a strong language speaker by any means, and Spanish has always been hard for me. But you know what makes a language super hard? When the professor thinks we're gifted Spanish speakers and pushes us. Not only that, and this is probably the courses fault, not the professors, but the fact we have to orally speak this language I don't understand to each other. The first day the professor started passing a ball around for us to introduce ourselves (Our name, where we are from, and our major.) When the ball got to me I froze. I just looked at her. I finally said the first two questions but the last one... Don't get me started. My major is Communications and Digital Arts, and I had no idea how the hell to say that. I asked the professor, and I still couldn't tell you what she told me to say. All, I know is she said it to me about ten times, and I couldn't retain it. So by that being said, I found out I hate Spanish, that class, and the fact I am not a verbal listener.

So, here's to you, Welcome Back Week! I hope everybody else's week or week coming to be is wonderful and blessed. I hope it goes a lot better than mine, but it's all about making memories!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
