When you go to another state to root for your favorite college team, there are some laws you should be aware of beforehand that you might not have realized existed. Don’t worry, I have your back with a list of some of the more interesting laws of the home states to the SEC.


Alabama (The University of Alabama and Auburn University)

  1. It is illegal to wear a fake mustache that causes laughter in church.
  2. Boogers may not be flicked into the wind.
  3. It is legal to drive the wrong way down a one-way street if you have a lantern attached to the front of your automobile. 


Arkansas (University of Arkansas)

  1. Flirtation between men and women on the streets of Little Rock may result in a 30-day jail term. 
  2. It’s strictly prohibited to pronounce “Arkansas” incorrectly.
  3. Alligators may not be kept in bathtubs.


Florida (University of Florida)

  1. It is illegal to sell your children.
  2. If an elephant is left tied to a parking meter, the parking fee has to be paid just as it would for a vehicle.
  3. It is illegal to sing in a public place while attired in a swimsuit.

Georgia (University of Georgia)

  1. Goldfish may not be given away to entice someone to enter a game of bingo. 
  2. Donkeys may not be kept in bathtubs.
  3. It is illegal for one to make a disturbing sound at a fair.

Kentucky (University of Kentucky)

  1. Throwing eggs at a public speaker could result in up to one year in prison. 
  2. Dogs may not molest cars.
  3. One may not dye a duckling blue and offer it for sale unless more than six are for sale at once.

Louisiana (Louisiana State University)

  1. Minors may not go to businesses with coin-operated Foosball machines unless accompanied by an adult. 
  2. Persons could land in jail for up to ten years for stealing an alligator.
  3. It is illegal to gargle in public places.

Mississippi (Mississippi State University and University of Mississippi)

  1. It is unlawful to shave in the center of Main Street.
  2. A man may not seduce a woman by lying and claiming he will marry her.
  3. Private Citizens may personally arrest any person that disturbs a church service.

Missouri (University of Missouri)

  1. No person may have a yard sale in their front yard. 
  2. Installation of bathtubs with four legs resembling animal paws is prohibited.
  3. It is unlawful to provide beer or other intoxicants to elephants.


South Carolina (University of South Carolina)

  1. When approaching a four way or blind intersection in a non-horse driven vehicle, you must stop 100 feet from the intersection and discharge a firearm into the air to warn horse traffic.
  2. Horses may not be kept in bathtubs.
  3. By law, if a man promises to marry an unmarried woman, the marriage must take place.

Tennessee (The University of Tennessee and Vanderbilt University)

  1. It is a crime to share your Netflix password.
  2. It is legal to gather and consume road kill.
  3. It is illegal to use a lasso to catch a fish.

Texas (Texas A&M University)

  1. It is illegal to take more than three sips of beer at a time while standing. 
  2. It is illegal to sell ones eye.
  3. It is illegal for one to shoot a buffalo from the second story of a hotel.
