Weird Habits You Pick Up In College

The college transition is one we prepare our whole lives for. Once we're all moved in we realize how different everything is, but after a while, we're so used to it we don't even realize the habits we've changed.

1. Get used to wearing shower shoes

Showering at home and having to shower in you dorm are two very different things.

2. Sharing clothes with your roommates.

At home you had nothing to wear, you'd dig something out of the end of your closet. In college, you find nothing in your closet? Ask your roommate to go through hers.

3. The necessity to order pizza after every night out.

Depending on where you're from, I'm sure you and your friends used to go on Wendy's/McDonalds drives. Now when you come back you plop yourself on your beds, take your clothes off and wait for your pizza to arrive.

4. If there's Google there's a way, If there's a Quizlet there's an A.

This is something I say to my friends all the time when they complain about Blackboard assignments. Quizlet is a gift to us. Last minute quizzes suck, especially when you haven't done the ready yet and its due at Midnight.

5. Eating the same thing in the dining hall because when you try to switch it up, you just get more disappointed.

Ever in the "anything but cafe food" mood but your stuck w cafe food? Because I know that's always me.

6. Did you have a nap today?

Taking naps (yes plural) throughout the day. Come back from class and if you have time you nap. Oh, you're done with homework? Nap. Don't wanna do homework? Nap. To be honest, just nap it out.

7. Thinking if you use your credit card you're not spending.

Not knowing where all your money went is something we can all relate to especially because online spending becomes the No. 1 way to go. This habit hurts a little more than others.

8. Either you're always in your room or you're never there.

You either become cooped up in your dorm or you avoid being locked in there.

9. Procrastinating...then CRAMMING.

Procrastinating all work for later then realizing you have a too much to do and having to cram it all in one night.

10. Doing things solely to get free things

Free food?? Catch me there. Events with free shirts? Stickers? Accessories, you name it I'll be there. Just let me know where!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
