As an aspiring writer, I have come to realize my love for writing is a blessing, as well as a curse.

Although writing can be a stress induced career choice, there is nothing more special than the feeling of being able to express any emotion or idea imaginable through words.

Through the ups and downs, I have embraced my decision to become a writer. Whether you've been writing for a week, or your entire life, there are so many things only writers understand.

1. There Is Nothing More Therapeutic Than Writing

The release of emotions and ideas is so addicting to us. There is nothing more therapeutic than writing, and being able to have the freedom to say and express exactly what we are thinking is a feeling unlike any other.

2. Caffeine is always necessary

Yes, very cliche- the writer induced by deep thoughts inside of a little coffee shop...but really where would we be without caffeine?! I have found that my greatest waves of creativity can be found at the bottom of a coffee cup.

3. Writer's Block Is Painful

The epidemic known as writer's block has found its way into every single one of our lives. The key is to never let it get the best of you... the pain always subdues at some point.

4. The Ambition is Real

I recall staying up late reading the New Yorker as a child and saying to myself- "I'm going to read my own story in here one day, I am positive." It seems silly, but we really all think it- because we will accomplish it if we really believe it.

5. Math Is Not Our Strong Suit

This is isn't true for all of us writers, but personally- I am horrible. It's not that we're incompetent when it comes to numbers, but words are more our style, ya know?

6. Struggling To Name A Piece

For a journalist such as myself- this may also mean struggling to create a relevant headline that draws a reader in. For creative writing, this struggle could be initiated by anything as simple as the title of the piece. It's always on the tips of our tongues- and the perfect name is always found by the end of the struggle.

7. When We're On A Roll- It's Binge Writing For Days

Although procrastination assimilates itself into our lives here and there- when an idea springs into our minds there's no stopping us. The feeling of finding the perfect idea for a new piece in indescribable, and when we check out for a couple days- there's no doubt we are in front of a computer binge writing.

8. Deadlines are the WOAT

Deadlines have taught us to be crazy about being on time for things. I guess it prevents procrastination in a way, right?!

9. We Absolutely Love It

There is nothing we would rather do.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
