We Have The Power To Make America Better

As a country we place too much power in the hands of those we elect into official positions.

In a society eager about placing blame on someone, it is inevitable for a vicious cycle of aggression to occur. The media aids in this by providing a bias platform to relay information that is normally one sided. With all the political publicity surrounding this presidential election it seems that many of these issues have been amplified.

In all seriousness everything regarding the election has come down to a complete s*** show. Popular opinion is that our country is doomed regardless of who wins this presidential election. However, I think it is important that people start realizing the impact they have not only in the overall outcome of the election by voting, but by their ability to positively impact a variety of issues simply with passion.

People often down play the power that the overall public can play in causing change. This is extremely frustrating because there is extraordinary power in numbers which can help to make the voices of any group heard. But instead of trying to see this perspective, majority of people back down to the status quo and hinder their true feelings and beliefs towards numerous issues. Instead of representing what they believe in, they choose a political party to support.

Regardless of political affiliation it is fair to say that most people do not agree with every view that the political party they affiliate supports. This seems idiotic that as a society we settle for candidates and their perspectives that we do not even fully agree with. This election has become a decision of voting for who is less worse, and that's extremely disappointing.

Whether Republican or Democratic, change will be made and the sad reality is that whoever does not agree with the decisions being made will put sole blame on the future president. In actuality if they are upset with the outcome of the election and the laws being passed the blame should also be placed on the people who were blind voters or "settled" when choosing a candidate.

As a society why do we not question what we do not agree with more? Why do we not send letters to congress or protest unfair ideologies? Why are we so afraid to act on all the things we verbally complain about on a daily basis? If you can write a long Facebook post about it then you have the time to address your concern in a more formal way to actually have a chance of being heard and make a difference.

This is the sad dilemma that I believe our country is facing and will continue to face due to the ignorance of too many citizens. There is hope that something will hopefully change in order to make our country better than ever, but as of now, as a young adult hoping for a decent future, I have no faith because my actions alone are not enough. I hope future generations have the knowledge past generations did not to make America the country that people saw a bright future in years ago, that same place once again.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
