“Study halls, SATs, Liberal Arts, Student loans, Lay offs, Bail outs, Broken dreams – This is NOT our future.”
College is all fun and games until that daunting day arrives – graduation. This day is full of happy tears because you can finally soar off into the real world with all of the knowledge you’ve gained over the years, but also heartbreaking tears because, well, you’re ACTUALLY soaring off into the real world with all of the knowledge you’ve gained over the years.
Some graduates have dreams like taking over their family business. Some students have dreams of working for a firm in their dream city as a business man/woman. But others have one in a million dreams that do not need a college education. These kinds of dreams include becoming a Hollywood actor, international model or, the most recent trend, a well-known EDM DJ.
This is Zac Efron’s character in We Are Your Friends; this is Cole Carter’s dream. Cole Carter never attended a university and instead vividly pictures himself on stage taking the audience’s heads out of their bodies by starting off at 125 beats per minute and bringing their heart rates up to 128 beats per minute, which is the perfect number to make any raver go crazy.
The film releases in theaters August 28th, but the trailer has just hit YouTube and after watching it a few times, I can pretty much guarantee that you’ll want to go hit up your nearest EDM festival, or at least sulk in your memories as you watch videos from last summer’s EDC and Ultra.
I recently talked to a few key people who helped with the production of We Are Your Friends and based upon what they have told me, this movie is definitely targeted at college students. If you don’t like EDM music, it's no problem because the film is more about inspiring recent graduates and dreamers of the age to come to terms with the most important aspects in their lives and making something out of themselves that they can be proud of with or without a degree. So take a break from those online summer classes, demanding jobs, and internships to watch a film that will inspire you to chase your wildest dreams. (Think Saturday Night Fever meets Train Spotting with a little pinch of Project X.)
Oh and I almost forgot. You know how I mentioned I spoke with some key participators of the film? Stay tuned in two weeks when I will be writing a behind the scenes article with interviews from the writer, director, producer and one of the biggest stars of the film!
