Politics and environment go hand-in-hand, yet big businesses seem to have a highly important role. For years there have been debates over fossil fuels and alternative energy. Today we are staring climate change in the face, and do nothing.
As I have seen with most millennials, they supported Bernie Sanders. Most of them would say they like him because he is going to knock down the 1 percent and put an end to climate change.
First off, if you are an American citizen, you are a part of the world that uses 24 percent of the world’s energy sources, yet only hold about 5 percent of the population. There are third world countries that have double the people your country has, yet uses way less energy. You can’t take money with you when you die, so how about you stop worrying about taxing rich folks 90 percent for your college education, and check your privilege.
It is time to start worrying about the damage we each cause. Every time you drive your car, go on your phone, laptop or buy something manufactured, you contribute to climate change.
Most of us are not willing to give up our conveniences, which is why we need to find alternative forms of energy. Wait, don’t we already have alternative forms of energy?
Yes, yes we do, but we don’t use them very often. Like many things in life, there are pros and cons to everything.
Many times the cons outweigh the pros in renewable energy. The biggest con is money. Money makes the world spin nowadays.
We have renewable energy available to us in the forms of wind, solar, water and geothermal. Well those all sound wonderful on paper; we all know reality is much different. It is like seeing a cute dress on a mannequin, but as soon as it's on you...it's ugly.
Wind provides huge amounts of energy, and is actually very affordable/ It’s only downside is that you would constantly need wind and lots of wide open spaces for more wind farms. Water is converted into steam and creates energy. The only problem is the net energy (difference between energy used and energy actually produced) was very low, and/or negative.
Solar energy is great, yet limited due to the sun only being out for so many hours in a day. Also the initial cost of the solar panels is very pricey for the average person.
Our current candidates are very interesting to talk to when it comes to the environment. Trump doesn’t think climate change exist. Hillary wants to spend $60 billion to push start the use of renewable energy, which is absolutely wonderful. We can only hope that she can keep her promise if she is elected.
Now, as I said before big businesses have most of the control with energy, and they will not let their business go under without a fight. These companies will do anything to make sure that we continue to use fossil fuels, and nonrenewable resources.
In fact, many will say: if we run out of one fossil fuel, we will just find another. Not a problem, as if it were as easy as refilling your gas tank (oh the irony). While environmentalist will disagree and choose energy efficient products.
Remember that we can change, but no one ever said change was easy.
