We Can Pray

When you feel helpless and hopeless like there's nothing you can do, remember— there is always something you can do.

We Can Pray

In a world full of hatred, sadness, and division, it seems as if there's nothing we can do but sit and watch in horror at the outcomes of political injustice and domestic terrorism that are tearing our country apart. As I mourn the loss of two black men, someone's son and someone's father, I also mourn the lives of five law enforcement officers who are also someone's son and someone's father. A black mother should not be afraid to raise her black son, fearful he may be mistaken for a "thug" and his life taken unjustly. A white daughter should not be afraid for her father's life when he goes to work for the day, protecting and serving his community. No one should be afraid to live in the United States of America. When we feel so helpless in this crazy world, always remember — there is always one thing we can do: we can pray.

Pray for Peace.

John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid."

Pray for Love.

Mark 12:31"The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these."

Pray for Justice.

Isaiah 30:18 "Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice.Blessed are all who wait for him!"

Pray for Equality.

Galatians 3:26-28 "26 for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith.27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."

Pray for Understanding.

Jeremiah 33:3"Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know."

Pray for Acceptance.

Romans 15:7"Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God."

Pray for Accountability.

James 4:17“Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.”

Pray for Your Community.

Psalm 133:1"How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!"

Pray for Our Country.

Psalm 33:12"Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance."

Pray for Our World.

John 3:16"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
