From High School Friends to College Roommates

It's senior year of your high school career and you and a friend get into the same university. You're fully aware what people say about friends from high school rooming together, but throw caution aside and do it anyways. At this point in time skeptics start saying “you guys will not be friends after this experience” like they are reading your tarot cards. To all of you I would like to say thank you because you know how stubborn we are, and of course you wanted us to prove you wrong. I want to let my roommate know how much I have enjoyed our time rooming together.

It has been a positive experience and I am very thankful that I didn’t have to Facebook/Instagram stalk you. Thank god, you spared me of that time consuming task that would make me feel like a Class A stalker. I did not have the option of judging your selfies, or your life through social media. I did not have to stand around playing mind games with myself wondering if I should message you, because being both the women we are there would be no way we would have made the “Hello it’s me your college roommate” move first. I am assuming that’s how it goes.

Having an established bond before coming to college made the transition easy. Spending the last four years together in high school, I have discovered most of the things that trigger you to laugh, get angry and cry. I know how you are in big crowds, small groups and when it’s just us. I know when you are as basic girls say “over it”. Now, living with you I have learned what it takes to make you feel better, that might be takeout Chinese food and ridiculously funny videos from the Ellen show. We had the opportunity to not have those awkward first days where I could have been scared to ask you the simplest of questions or fall asleep because I know I snore (you're welcome). Instead we got to laugh and be awkward together, while watching all the other roommates bond and ask the weird first day questions.

I just want to say that I’m so blessed that you knew who I was ahead of time and know how crazy I am and how crazy I potentially could get (in a good way). You understand that hand talking is non curable, and sometimes my hands can explain what I am saying a lot clearer. You get that Sicilian blood runs through my veins, so I get very passionate about things and you kindly sit there and entertain it. You listen to my political rants, me occasionally speaking Arabic in my sleep and my late night stress cleaning. You are also totally aware that I zone out when you talk about science and are simply okay with that, I promise I am working on it. I want to especially give you props for being able to handle what I look like in the morning and being able to laugh at me, it truly means a lot.

We understand how important these next four years are to each other as well as our growth in our faith, and so far we have helped and supported each other only to get closer to our goals. So thank you and I cant wait to live together again next year!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
