As we all know, this past year our country went through one of the most explosive presidential elections in years. The finally two candidates were very different, and they attracted drastically different people's support. After a long fight, Donald J. Trump took the win, and he was sworn in as our 45th president on January 20th.
Now, there are a large amount of people in our country who have taken to aggressively opposing President Trump. While it is perfectly fine not to agree with him, the protests and public declarations of hatred towards our president are not okay.
We live in America; this is the greatest country in the world. We have many freedoms that the rest of the world do not get to enjoy, and yet we, as a country, are looked down on by the rest of the world. The behaviors that have become normal in our country are absolutely appalling and in my opinion, embarrassing.
When did it become okay for adults to react like children to situations that have happened before and will happen again? So your candidate lost, big deal. In this life, many things will not go your way, but pitching a fit and rioting in your cities will not change that fact.
Eight years ago, Barack Obama was sworn in as our 44th president, and there were many people who had not voted for him; however, there were no riots in the streets or "safe spaces" on college campuses. People accepted the reality of the situation and moved on with their lives.
If we, as a country, continue to act this way, America will become the laughingstock of the world. I think people forget how fortunate we are to live where we do. We get to elect our own president; do you know how many people around the world wish they had that right? Throwing a tantrum because the end result was not what you wanted is not the way to handle the situation.
When a president is sworn in, he is put into office for four years. So, in case you forgot, this situation is not a permanent one. So, even if you did not vote for him, you will have another chance to win the next election in 2020.
As a country, we need to come together and put aside our differences. We are so much stronger together than we are apart, and once we realize that, America will be unstoppable. We can't help anyone in the state that our country is in right now.
I think people have forgotten what it truly means to be an American, and for that, we should be ashamed. We have to stop taking our freedoms for granted because those freedoms are not free. Many men and women have died so that America can stay the free nation that we all love.
I know that many people are unhappy with the results of this election, but it is over. President Trump represents America now. If you are wishing for him to fail, then you are wishing for America to fail.
Donald J. Trump is your president now; so whether you are happy about it or not, you MUST support him. Just give him a chance to prove you wrong; I promise you will not lose anything by doing that.
We are Americans before we are Republicans or Democrats; we can not forget that. No matter who our president is, I am and always will be PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN. I hope you are, too.
