Leaders are everyday people; they are your fellow peers, the man that sits on the corner begging for money, that kid that no one actually talks to. When given the chance, anyone can blossom into a leader. We, as humans, just need the right environment to become the leader that is needed.
“Leadership is not about titles, positions or flowcharts. It is about one life influencing another.” -- John C. Maxwell
What is a leader and what do they do?
Leaders explain to the group what they are doing. Notice the word: “They." Leaders also do the same work if not more because they set the example for the group and bystanders. Leaders explain, follow through and answer questions anyone has no matter how “dumb” it may be. Leaders should never show favoritism, aggression nor apathy.
“The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things.” -- Ronald Reagan
What can the leader accomplish?
Leaders can accomplish various responsibilities and objectives. The first and foremost is the groups reason for being formed. From there it branches off to other objectives that will never be stated. These include but do not stop at team building, communication and raising skill levels of each individual participant. The leader guides each individual including themselves to gain and grow in all areas. The majority of the time, it is never a directly implied that they are working on these skills.
“Leadership is communicating people’s worth and potential so clearly that they are inspired to see it in themselves.” Is that not also the essence of good teaching?” -- Stephen R. Covey
Why can everyone be a leader?
Leaders do not have to necessarily have a group to lead, they just need to have good actions that help, inspire, and teach others who are watching. This can as simple as picking up trash in the neighborhood, reading books to young students to visiting the elderly. Community service is a great way for everyone to be a leader.
“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” -- John Quincy Adams
We all are leaders... just take a step back and think to yourself how you can bring out your inner leader.
