With finals week soon to be upon us there is no doubt that we are completely overwhelmed with work. Professors have decided that, if they continue to teach ten minutes after class has ended and assign 6 weeks worth of reading material within three days, we can catch up to where they had planned on us being at this point in the semester. As a result we are completely panicked. With a few good tips, you just might survive finals!
1. Reward Yourself
It's hard to be a student! You spend countless hours just trying to keep up with the demands of your course load. It's easy to want to give up when it just becomes too much. Instead, consider giving yourself a reward for all of the hard work that you're doing. If you have a favorite pastime or snack, consider taking a brief break from work. Sometimes a break is exactly what you need.
2. Eat Brain Food
You're tired. You're stressed. You've been living off of granola bars and ramen noodles for the past few months. Right now is a better time than any to eat a little healthier. It will help you feel better and that can never hurt when you're this close to final exams. Chow down!
3. Sleep
We all need more sleep. It's time to stop saying that we're tired and to actually do something about it. If you have a few hours in between classes or in between any sort of obligations and you don't absolutely have to do any work in that time, take a nap! If you're exhausted you'll get nothing done.
4. Disconnect
One of the hardest things to do, but arguably the most efficient, is to "disconnect" yourself from social media and any sort of distractions. I've even heard of some entrusting their passwords to a family member or close friend for the duration of their final exam period. This particular person was locked out of their accounts so that they could study. Take advantage of the "do not disturb" option on your phone so that you can be more efficient! Be strong and log off.
5. Relax
I have this friend who would put everything into perspective any time I was preoccupied about something. She would say something along the lines of: "Is it really that big of a deal. Will it affect your life in ten years?" If you are not 100 percent prepared for your finals the world will not end. No matter how dire you think that the situation is the, world will not stop spinning. Just breathe and do your best.
Good luck to all of those who are suffering from a stressful end to first semester. You are not alone.
