As the semester’s end creeps closer and closer, we begin to realize finals are less than two months away. Here are a few tips to help you finish strong.
1) Go to Class- I understand how difficult it is to drag yourself out of bed and listen to a professor talk about boring subjects, but GO TO CLASS. Professors cover tons of information in class not covered in the textbook. Especially if you are an auditory learner, listening to someone explain a topic is much more beneficial than trying to learn it from a book. Go to class and your bed will be waiting for you when you return.
2) Organize- If you organize your notes, homework and quizzes, it makes studying much easier. When you have tons of unorganized notes, you waste time searching through all your notes for one piece of information. Also, organize your time. When you allot time for specific tasks, it saves time and allows you to be more efficient.
3) Study Groups- If you haven’t already, ask a few people in your class for their numbers or email. These few people will become a great asset to your success in each class. Whether you text them a question or compare notes, these people will help you in multiple ways.
4) Find YOUR Place- Everyone has their unique place to study. Figure out a place where you are most productive. For instance, I don’t study well in the library because I end up watching others study. I study best alone in my room. Whether it is at Starbucks, the library, or your room, figure out where you study best before finals.
5) Your Day- Take one day a week and dedicate it to allowing yourself to recharge. It is easy to get burned out if you don’t take the necessary time for yourself. On this day, do something that makes you happy. Watch a movie, read book, go shopping, hangout with friends, go golfing, watch sports or anything that makes you happy and relaxed. I find it much easier to focus on school, and other commitments after I am refreshed.
Finals are such a stressful time for everyone in college. Right before finals is when we feel tired, apathetic, and unmotivated. Apply these tips, and you will be more focused and encouraged to succeed in your classes. Remember: start preparing for finals now because they are closer than you think. Good luck everyone and finish strong.
