How Waterskiing Has Taught Me A Few Life Lessons

Do you remember a time when you were in a class and you had to stand up and introduce yourself and give a unique fact about yourself in front of the group? I’ve had to do this numerous times and every single time a situation like this comes up I always use the unique fact that I like to waterski. Water skiing is a unique sport and here are some of the ways that I have been able to apply it to my life.

In order to be successful in water skiing, you have to have a team of people to make it happen. You have to have a skier and a driver of the boat or watercraft.

There is no way to ski on your own because you have to have someone else driving the boat for you to be able to create the environment for you to be able to be a successful skier. Just like in life, in order to create an environment to be successful in you have to have something to hang on to through all of the good and bad times of life. The only thing that can truly fulfill you and give you the best environment in which to be successful is God.

Just like the driver of the ski boat, God will pull you through all of the smooth and rough waters of life. When you need it the most, he will come right back to pull you back up when you fall. Lean on God and know that he is the only thing that will allow you to be able to live your life to the fullest.

To be a successful water skier you have to be willing to push yourself outside of your comfort zone and be willing to fail. I firmly believe that you have the most growth as a person when you are doing something outside of your comfort zone.

Whether you are going on a date, trying a new sport, or learning about something new, all of these things happen in a place outside of you comfort zone. Water skiing has taught me to push my comfort zone and expand my horizons because there is so much growth to be had and it’s all waiting for you outside of your comfort zone.

Some things will be out of your control and they may cause you to stumble. Don’t get discouraged by this. The way you respond to your failures in life will determine your successes.

Sometimes when you get up early in the morning the water is as smooth as glass and there isn’t a single boat on the lake and you can see the sun peeking out over the lake as it rises in the sky.

There is so much beauty in water skiing and there is so much beauty in life if you know where to look for it. A sunrise or sunset over the lake may not seem like the most beautiful thing in the world but, these moments have taught me to appreciate the little things in life because there is so much joy in our everyday lives that I think people sometimes fail to see.

So, I encourage you to let the little things in life bring you joy and to seek out the beauty in other people and let it bring you joy.

I am so passionate about waterskiing and it is such an amazing sport. I hope that you are able to relate to this article, and I encourage you to lean on God through everything that happens in your life, to not be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone, and to look for the beauty in your everyday life.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
