Where do I start? "Jane the Virgin" is one of the greatest shows to ever grace television. The CW hit it out the park with this one, seriously. "The daughter of a teen mother, Jane Villanueva grew up determined not to repeat her mom's mistakes. At 23 her life is on track; Jane is studying to be a teacher and engaged to a handsome detective who supports her decision to remain a virgin until marriage. Then a routine clinic visit flips her life upside down. Inseminated by a specimen meant for a patient in the next room, now-pregnant Jane is in a situation made only more insane when she learns that the sperm donor is her boss, Rafael. As her meticulously planned life gets more like the telenovelas she loves, she faces a lot of complicated decisions about where to go from here."
That summary only touches on all of the fun and drama this show has to offer, so like any college student would do, I'll explain this show with GIFs and make you so interested that you'll just have to watch it!
Gina Rodriguez, who plays Jane, is real and warm and anyone can relate to her. She's smart, level-headed, driven, strong, and extremely brave. How could you not love her?
Rafael, the father of Jane's baby, is confident and caring and really really really loves Jane. (His looks don't hurt either).
And then there's Jane's ex-fiance, Michael. He's compassionate, always puts others first, and just like Rafael he really really really loves Jane. If you sensed a love triangle you're right.
Jane never knew her dad growing up, but now he's in her life and he refuses to miss out on anymore. Oh and he's a famous telenovela star, Rogelio De La Vega. What he lacks in smarts he makes up for in heart.
Jane's mom, Xiomara, is her best friend. She can be a mess sometimes, but she's always there for her daughter and always puts her first.
Then there's Petra; she's Rafael's ex-wife and is way jealous of his relationship with Jane because she's still in love with him. She also works in and owns a portion of Rafael's hotel, The Marbella. Draaaammmaaaa.
But the best part of this whole show has to be the narrator. He points out the obvious and the idiotic throughout each episode. You need to watch this show just to hear his voice, it's angelic.
But honestly, this show is so much more than dramedy. It's about real life and real people. They don't sugar coat or make things seem unrealistic. Just a wonderfully funny, happy and sad (I've cried multiple times watching it) show that can easily brighten your day! Plus, the first season is on Netflix, and if that didn't sell you, just look at this.
Watch "Jane the Virgin" Mondays at 9/8c on the CW.
