These movies are very unique but heart-wrenching. If you're ever in the mood, definitely try one of these.
The Lovely Bones (2009), Directed by Peter Jackson
This unique film is narrated by the main character, Susie Salmon a 14-year-old girl who has been murdered. It follows her as she finds herself in an “in between” dream-like world, watching her family cope with her death as she moves forward to “heaven”. Mark Wahlberg plays her father, a devoted man still able to sense his daughter’s presence, as he searches for her murder.
Enter the Void (2009), Directed by Gaspar Noé
As you watch this movie, you’ll realize it’s not like most. The entire time you are watching the world through Oscar’s eyes, witnessing what he is experiencing in Tokyo. The whole film is enhanced with the feeling of a psychedelic trip, with bright lights and sounds, providing sad and meaningful insight into the life, death and after-death of a young man. (TRIGGER WARNING: DRUGS, DRUG OVERDOSING, ADDICTION)
Across the Universe (2007), Directed by Julie Taymor
Even if you’re not a fan of the Beatles, I highly recommend this movie. A young British man travels to America during the 1960’s, meeting new people and going to new places, discovering true love. All of this occurs while talking and singing through many Beatles’ songs.
Requiem for a Dream (2000), Directed by Darren Aronofsky
Jared Leto and Jennifer Connelly star in this incredibly emotional and intense film. Taking place within a year, you watch their highs and lows of their experiences as drug dealers, drug users, friends and lovers. (TRIGGER WARNING: DRUGS, DRUG USE, AND ADDICTION)

Jim Carrey portrays a heartbroken ex-boyfriend of a unique girl that came into his life like a storm, and left as an even bigger one. He’s trying to deal with his emotions and decides to undergo a procedure that will make him forget everything, even though he fights it.
The Virgin Suicides (1999), Directed by Sofia Coppola
5 beautiful sisters living in a simple town are a mystery to everyone around them. They are eye-catching and dreamy, and the neighborhood boys want to figure them out as the youngest one takes her life. (TRIGGER WARNING: SUICIDE)
SLC Punk! (1998), Directed by James Merendino
Two young men are experiencing life in Salt Lake City as two punks. They have rules and ideals on their punk lifestyle, experiencing the world with their friends through parties, drugs and lots of alternative music. (TRIGGER WARNING: DRUG USE, DRUG ADDICTION)
Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), Directed by George Miller
Okay, this movie is hands down, indescribably the absolute most amazing film to have ever existed (unbiased opinion obviously). Tom Hardy plays Max, a lonesome man haunted by his past, wandering a post-apocalyptic world. Finding himself trapped by the hands of a psychotic dictator, he encounters Charlize Theron, playing Imperator Furiosa, a strong woman escaping to a better life. They embark on a wild chase throughout the desert, picking up unwilling enemies and risking their lives in the sandy and dangerous environment.
