Recently, Brother Wolf, a no-kill animal shelter located in Asheville, rescued nearly 50 rabbits from a woman who had been rescuing them from local shelters and ended up with way more than she could manage to foster alone. Now, Brother Wolf needs OUR help finding these guys loving forever homes!
Rabbits are amazingly adorable pets. While they count as small mammals, they are much more akin to cats in that they like a lot of space and can be litter box trained. Rabbits have a similar lifespan to dogs and have a huge range of personalities just like any other animal. Generally speaking, though, rabbits love attention and can even be taught some tricks. Before getting any new pet it is important to do the research to make sure that you can provide the best care that pet needs. For example, cedar is deadly to rabbits. So when providing a shelter and bedding for a rabbit, never, ever use cedar. Also while rabbits of course like carrots, carrots alone are not very nutritious. To be healthy and happy, rabbits should get a varied diet of grass hay, rabbit pellets, and vegetables. The more research you do into your new family member, the happier it will be.
Currently, many of the rabbits Brother Wolf has taken in are being lovingly cared for by their foster families:
1. Baby Red
Baby Red is a male, 4-month-old Head rabbit. He is super sweet and likes cucumbers! While it may take Baby Red a little while to get used to you, once he does he is more than happy for some snuggles and a nice brushing. He loves to play with his brother Doppler as well as his toys. But his most favorite thing to do is flop down on his side and chill. Baby Red isn’t litter box trained yet, but he’s starting to figure it out.
2. Doppler
and a Lionhead. Doppler is very sweet and curious and is just the cutest silly little rabbit. Like his brother he loves playing with his toys and eating cucumbers, is good about being brushed, and is in the process of being litter box trained.
3. Artex
trained and can’t wait to be given a second chance.
4. Clove
5. Oreo
Oreo certainly lives up to her name with her adorable black spots. She is an adult female and while she does need more socialization she is very friendly. Oreo is curious and gentle and loves pets, even from kids!
6. Philly
Philly is an adult male rabbit and a very sweet boy. He’s a little underweight and needs some more human socialization but really loves cats. Philly loves his veggies and hay and is already completely litter box trained! He appreciates hugs and treats and has finally figured out how to hop around.
