PAPERS. TESTS. QUIZZES. READING. STUDYING. Those are things that are completed while attending school, which can make school very stressful. While we're in school, we are taught to think that our GPA is what determines our future. It determines what scholarships we get and even what job will hire us. So once summer break arrives in mid-May, no one wants to continue to think about all the stress and pressure that comes with having to be successful in the academic world. However, attending summer school is not entirely as bad as most people may think. In fact, attending summer school can be very beneficial in ways students may not have assumed. Here are ten reasons why you should go to summer school.
1. Taking classes in the summer can speed up the amount of time you spend in college; therefore, you can most likely graduate early.
2. If you finished the year with a low GPA, summer classes can raise it as long as you do well.
3. If you attend a university outside of your home state, courses will be way cheaper if you take them at home, which can save you a lot of money.
4. Difficult subjects like math and science are more challenging at large universities because of the hundreds of students that are gathered together in one classroom. If you take harder classes in the summer, the chances of you doing better are way higher.
5. The classes are a little smaller and there is an opportunity to be more engaged in a smaller setting.
6. When your mind is continuously learning for a period of time, and all of a sudden stops during the summer, it can make going back to school more challenging. If you stay on top of your studies continuously, you are more likely to do better.
7. A class that you could take in the fall will last all semester; if you take that same class in the summer, you could knock it out in a month.
8. Summer classes are really relaxed.
9. During the school year, a full-time student takes a minimum load of 12 credit hours or 4 courses; if you take a class in the summer, you are able to devote more attention to it.
10. Since the summer load is so light, working and going to school is easier. You're able to make money and still get an education!
11. DID I MENTION YOU COULD GRADUATE EARLY?
At the end of the day, school is not for everyone, and many are okay with taking their time. However, don't forget to keep these ten tips in the back of your head whenever you're contemplating taking summer classes.
Happy Summer '16, live it up!
