Whether you are a hardcore Walking Dead fan like myself or have been living under a rock for the past few weeks, the season six mid-season premiere aired on this past Valentine's Day. The rest of this season is set to be the most anticipated and revealing yet.
With many questions to be answered and new elements to be introduced, here are five things I think we all want to happen on this season of "The Walking Dead".
1. More backstory
Up to this point, AMC has done a great job at giving us flashbacks and letting us know not only what the group was like before the apocalypse, but how they have been at different points after the zombie breakout. Regarding the rest of the season, it would be really interesting if pre-Alexandria flashbacks were mixed in with the current destruction of it.
2. How it started
With everything going absolutely wrong (once again) for the group, I think now would be the perfect time to somehow present how the zombie infestation started. Not only with the group divided, but with certain members of the group possibly facing death, it seems to be the best option to introduce a sort of "life" element around how the outbreak happened.
3. A pre-Alexandria character death
I know what you're thinking, but, yes, now would be a great time to kill off someone we are emotionally attached to (besides Daryl, of course). There hasn't been a heartbreaking character kill-off since Beth. Killing off a beloved character would help keep the show's fans emotionally wrecked. Especially after Glen's escape from death that seemed fairly stretched, killing off Carol, who is really starting to come into her own, or even Maggie, who we just found out was pregnant (and would additionally be truly heartbreaking after Glen's survival), would be something that would hurt the fans, yet keep everyone wanting more.
4. The return of Daryl's crossbow
This seems very far-fetched, especially in the current predicament that Daryl, Sasha and Abraham are in, but Daryl's crossbow is iconic. Once Daryl is able to handle the situation he is in, it would be incredible to reunite him and his crossbow for two reasons. First of all, why even keep Daryl on the show if he doesn't have his crossbow? After being a created character and the show's face, he has to be able to wield his trusty bow. Secondly, Daryl's character progression has been one of my favorites of any show. After helping and protecting a group of runaways, only to have them rob him and leave him for dead, I would love to see how Daryl handles that— as in, whether he has mercy on them or makes them pay.
5. More bonding
This season has been nothing but back to back hardships on the group, from how to get rid of all of the zombies in Alexandria to it being attacked by the wolves to it being overrun by zombies again. Now, the group is trying to get out of Alexandria or find a way to get rid of Negan. After all of these hard times pass over them, for the sake of building morale amongst fans and the Walking Dead universe, it would be a perfect opportunity for emotional bonding within the group. Having a few episodes of low action, but a time for the fans to be more emotionally connected to the characters, would be a great setup for a surprising, action-packed season finale that would change the course of the series.
This season of "The Walking Dead" is one that the fans are more invested in than ever and the actual show is doing more than it has done before. With the mid-season premiere underway, I am excited to see how not only the season, but the whole series plays out. Hopefully, one, if not all five, of my points can be seen this season.
