Dear person waiting for life to begin,
Quit waiting for your life to start.
You know what I mean. There is a piece of you that is waiting for life to begin. There is something that you are waiting for, and that thing will be the defining moment that shifts you from existing to living. Trust me, I understand waiting. You wait for this thing to happen so that life can finally be what you want it to be. Your life can really begin when you achieve the thing you have been waiting for. But let me tell you something;
Your life doesn't start when you get to college.
Your life doesn't start when you graduate.
Your life doesn’t start when you turn 18 or 21 or 25 or 60...
It doesn't start when you get the dream job you want or when you get married or when you have kids.
Your life doesn't start when “it” happens-- when the magical thing you have been waiting for happens. You know what that thing is for you. It is the thing you daydream about. It is the thing that you work towards. It is the thing that when you envision your future, you imagine you doing this thing.
It is tempting to daydream about how much better our lives will be when the thing we really want happens. It is tempting to think about our lives really beginning when this thing finally happens for us. It is tempting to forget about the stage we are currently in.
But let me tell you what happens when you keep waiting for life to start instead of living your life now. When you wait for life to start, you forget to live life where it is. You don't know that your life can't start, because it already began. When you are merely waiting for life to start then you are just merely existing-- not necessarily progressing, but just staying put.
You're not living life right now. You're not experiencing the feelings of today and the people who are with you right now and the opportunities you have in front of you-- not in a way that gives them justice. You must embrace the moment you are in and live it bravely. You must live today as if the moment you are currently in is the one you spend all day, dreaming about.
Your life has already began, dear friend. Don't spend this precious, fleeting moment you have right in front of you wishing it were the next one. Being content right now does not mean you will never be where you one day hope to be, it just means that you give everything you've got to making this moment worth it.A wise person I know says this often: "There is no such thing as tomorrow because once tomorrow gets here we change it's name to "today." So let today be lived as if it were the tomorrow you have been waiting for and quit waiting for your life to start because it already has.
