All You Need Is 72 Hours To Find Perspective

It's long enough to decide what is worth your time, and what isn't.

All You Need Is 72 Hours To Find Perspective
Camryn Jones

72 hours. 3 days. 4,320 minutes. 259,200 seconds.

Seems like an infinite doesn't it? But in the moment, its simply just three days. Three whole, long, tiring days. But a lot can change in three days. You could dye your hair. You could ace a test. You could fall in love. You could wear your favorite outfit. You could find $100 on the floor. A lot can happen in three days. Most importantly, three days is the time it takes to decide. The best advice I've ever been given is three days.

If it won't matter in 72 hours, it's not worth worrying about now.

When something happens, and it seems like the world is ending, is it really? That simple little inconvenience that seems like the more than infinite, it really isn't. It isn't more than something that will matter for 30 minutes or maybe even 5 hours, but that's all. As easy as it comes, it will go.

If you don't feel the need to react and retaliate in 72 hours, don't do it at all.

You know when something rubs you the wrong way, or you're in a bad mood and some says something absolutely not needed, take a deep breath. Take a long, big, deep breath. And let it go. It's not going to matter in three days, it's not going to make a difference in three days.

If they know you're hurting, and they haven't check on you in 72 hours, move on.

When they know you hurt you, or they know you're hurting, give them three days. Give them three whole days. And if it still hurts, you have to move on yourself. Alone. Because 72 hours it enough time to know you hurt someone you love.

And most importantly....if it's still on your mind in 72 hours, say it.

You have three days to say what you want. Three days to say anything you want. But after three days, it's will kill you. If you keep it in after three days, it's going to eat you alive. You have three days before it effects everything. Three days to just say it.

Three days is a long time. But it's long enough to give perceptive. It's long enough to react. It's long enough to find out whether you mean something to someone. It's long enough to find out if you miss someone; if you can't live without them. It's long enough to decide what is worth your time, and what isn't.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
