At the end of a long day, there’s nothing like curling up and becoming enraptured with the fictional town of Stars Hollow. Something about the quaintness of Luke’s Diner and the everyone-knows-everything-about-everyone phenomenon that occurs there, reminds me of home. The mother-daughter relationship between Lorelai and Rory makes me think of my own mom, and appreciate her even more. Stars Hollow and the people in it make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
But that warm, fuzzy feeling only lasts for the seven seasons that the show endures, or so "Gilmore Girls" fans thought.
With that said, when I heard that Netflix was reviving the series with four 90-minute long "episodes," I was overcome with joy. Every "Gilmore Girls" fan knows that Season 7 left too many questions unanswered. Amy-Sherman Palladino (producer and writer) was absent during this season, and with that, so was the quick-witted repartee that had originally made the show worth watching. Relationships between characters were concluded rather abruptly and left me feeling unsatisfied, like when Rory announces she will not be marrying Logan out of the clear blue sky. The worst is the closing between Lorelai and Luke… since the very first episode of Season 1, we saw something there, and that’s all we get?
Hopefully, we can extract more of a sense of closure from this mini revival series. Most of the cast is set to return, including all three of Rory’s major love interests throughout the series. After some speculation, it is now final that Melissa McCarthy will also be rejoining the cast as Sookie. Most of the major characters will be back and I can’t wait to see how they interact with one another now that their lives have fast forwarded nine years.
To be honest, I’m hoping that sparks fly between Rory and Jess. He started out as the bad boy, but he was always my favorite boyfriend of Rory’s because he challenged her and he actually ended up really successful later in life. I hated the way their relationship ended with Jess moving to California. They deserved so much more time together! Maybe this will be the time when they finally confess their undying love for each other, but that might remain a wild fantasy of mine. Whatever happens, Jess, played by Milo Ventimiglia, will always be the hottest love interest on the show by far and the love of my life (if not Rory’s.)
One of the things I’m looking forward to the most, is re-experiencing the writing of the show. I was always amazed by Lorelai Gilmore’s ability to come up with a snappy comeback to just about anything. I tried to emulate her in real life, but failed miserably time after time by saying something super awkward and nonsensical. Let’s be honest, Lorelai is goals.
So when the "Gilmore Girls" series revival is added to Netflix, I will clear my schedule because the continuation of this show is a priority that stands above all else. Hopefully, it will have the same theme song because I eagerly await jamming to “Where You Lead,” and haven’t had the honest opportunity to in a while. Will Rory have established herself in her career? Will Lorelai and Luke be together? Will Jess, Dean or Logan steal the show? Only time will tell. The only definite is that I’m overjoyed to be revisiting Stars Hollow in the near future.
