Voting is our most basic human right, so why do people want to take it away? Voter suppression is still happening, yet we're not seeing anything on it.
As we've seen in recent weeks, people have had a hard time voting. Why is that? Surely we have the right? It's actually the 15th, 19th, 24th, and 26th amendment. It's literally in the Constitution. You know, "We the people?" It's also pretty suspicious that the votes were controlled by the Republican incumbent. But hey, it's not like that's biased or anything. Right? WRONG. As of November 10th, voters are still experiencing voter suppression. It's no secret that voting machines were down and people were not able to vote. The thing is, it happened in majority-black counties, and guess what party they (usually) belong to?
One county in Indiana has 0% of precincts reporting. Yep. ZERO. PERCENT. The FBI had to get involved and there's still no word as to why it happened.
In a lot of cases, people have had to vote absentee or provisional. Even before election day, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp tried to REJECT absentee ballots. Yeah, you read that right. He didn't even try to hide this heinous act. AND he had closed 214 polling places since 2014. Seriously? We preach democracy, yet we actively try to suppress votes. We preach freedom and liberty, yet our most basic right is trying to be taken away.
Our president even called for military members' votes NOT be counted. Republican or not, that is UNCONSTITUTIONAL.
Voting is a basic human right. We are born with the right to vote. As soon as people become citizens, it is an automatic right. It's been like that since the 1960s (because, you know, we didn't let EVERYONE vote until then). This is the generation of marches and protests for our rights. I am grateful for my right to vote, but not everyone has that right; I will not rest until voter suppression is gone. It'll be a long fight, but for our rights, I'll fight until the end.
