This week I got the chance to go to the city of Boston and I was not expecting to have such a fun time! I knew that most of the places we would go and things we would see would have to do with history and I am not a huge fan of history by any means. I live in a small town so I was mostly just excited to go to the big city for a few days. I was surprised by how much I didn’t know about Boston and here are some reasons I think it is so neat.
1. The History
“But wait, I thought you said you hated history?” Yeah that’s usually how I am, but it was so cool getting to actually see the sites of battles and historical events that up to that point had only been stories to me. I mean I got to see where Paul Revere hung the lanterns and where Benjamin Franklin is buried. How cool is that?
We got to see Tremont Temple, the first integrated church in America and Faneuil Hall, where Samuel Adams made speeches encouraging people to seek independence from the British. Needless to say these were both amazing places to visit.
2. The Architecture
I’m a huge architecture nerd. Whether its modern skyscrapers or things that have been standing there since the 1600s, you can’t go anywhere in Boston without seeing the most beautiful buildings and monuments.
3. The View
When you go to Boston, make sure you go to the Bunker Hill Monument and climb to the top. Yes it’s 295 steps to the top and yes, I almost died, but the view from the top is breath-taking.
When you climb this monument you’re at the highest point of the oldest neighborhood in Boston and you can virtually see the entire city from where you’re standing and I think that’s the coolest.
4. Fenway Park
We got to see so many iconic places but this one deserves its own section. I wasn’t anywhere close to being a baseball fan before our night at Fenway Park; maybe it was just being in such a famous ball park, or just the experience as a whole, but I had the time of my life! Even if you don’t like baseball, make sure you visit Fenway when you go to Boston!
5. Harvard University
Touring Harvard was such a unique and humbling experience. Spending time walking the same campus that so many world leaders including seven of our past presidents and our current Commander in Chief walked was incredible. Knowing that any of the students walking around us could be a future world leader just kind of blew my mind. But I think the coolest part of Harvard for me was when we learned about their library.
Housing almost 19 million books, this is one of the largest collections of knowledge in America; the library consists of this huge building and five underground stories.
Whether you’re a history buff, a sports fan, an architecture nerd or you just like going new places there are tons of things for you to do in Boston. Go and see one of my new favorite places!
